I have an "01" Honda 400EX with a K&N, White Bros. E Series Pipe, 2 Sizes up on main jet, and moved the clip down on the needle and it runs great, but still not the power that it could really have so my next step is a New CAM. Which CAM is the best for this setup? What is common, reliable and is there any more modifications I could make or should make??
Also, do I need to change my pilot jet? What would it help??
Thank you!

ghawkman,
I am about to do the very same thing with the addition of a 10.8:1 hi compression stock bore piston. I think I'm going with a Hotcams stage 2. The stage 2 is more of a mid/top end cam, with the added compression giving you the bottom end. This SHOULD make it feel like an all around improvement. The Web cam drop in is very good I hear as well as is the TC mx cam. Just figure out where you want the "hit" in the powerband, and then start calling around.
Now, if I can just maybe get someone to help guide a little with the de-assy and re-assy.... I'll be set.

Get the Honda service manual! $40 well spent...
The cam is easy to swap out. All you need to remove is the head cover but to change the piston you’ll need to also remove the head. I went with the HotCam stage II along with a Ross Racing 11.2:1 89mm piston (440) and new 39mm FCR carb. By the way the HotCam is a new grind and has no core charge like the WebCam so you can keep your stock cam. They are both supposedly designed as "drop-in" cams but Web also highly recommends hardened rocker arms. The Web is still a great cam but I chose the HotCam because the specs are similar but was $200 cheaper because you don’t have to harden the rockers for the same reliability.
Without going with a higher compression, larger carb, and larger exhaust in the near future you may be better off going with a xr400 or HotCam stage I cam because you won’t be using the full potential of a wilder cam. Cams need to match the rest of your setup or it may end up hurting performance more than it helps.
Somebody already posted the xr400 part number but here it is: 14000-HN1-000. Service Honda has it for $130 and it comes with the decompression assembly where all other manufactures don’t. Wish I had the measurements for the xr but here’s the rest:
HotCam Stage I - $130
Intake Lift: 9mm
Intake Duration: 246
Exhaust Lift: 9mm
Exhaust Duration: 246
HotCam Stage II - $130
Intake Lift: 8.8mm
Intake Duration: 254
Exhaust Lift: 8.6mm
Exhaust Duration: 254
WebCam 450/451 - $160
Intake Lift: .350in
Intake Duration: 256
Exhaust Lift: .345in
Exhaust Duration: 256
No matter what cam you choose you’ll have to re-jet the carb. Hope this helped.

Not too good yet. I ran into a guy with the same quad with the Exact same silencer and air filter and he said he bought the jet kit for that silencer and it told him to put in a 170 main jet and the mixtures screw 3 1/2 turns out. SO I bought one at Sweet Maries and it wouldn't run at all.
What jet were you running agian? How many turns out on your mixture screw? Is every Honda 400ex completely different as far as tuning is concerned?
I think I need to take it in and get it professionally tuned as it is. Any recommendations where to take it?
Thanks...
