So whats the best way to clean out your fresh water tank? The water that is in in now stinks so i need to flush it out. Will it help to flush it out with viniger or something?

Bleach.. x2 and flush it 4x..
jackxclan
regular bleach in mine a couple times a year flush it through the system and rinse it out after a couple days. Do you fill it with clorinated water ? Well water will go bad quick
Esco
bleach is what I use after I empty it, put 1/4cup, filler up and when your going to use it again, empty and fill back up with a capful of bleach
Esco
damn i type slow haha

This is how I do it.

Drain the tank.
Put about 1/3 of a tank of fresh water back in.
Get a garden sprayer that would be used to put miracle grow on your grass with the bottle that attaches to a hose.
Fill the container with bleach.
Turn on hose and run until bleach is gone.
I put a 1/2 gallon of bleach into a 100 gallon tank/s.
Fill the tanks the rest of the way.
Drive around so the bleach gets mixed up good.
run water through all of the faucets hot and cold both and toilet
drain the tanks again.
Fill tanks again with fresh water and drain.
Fill tanks and call it good.

I fill my tank 1/4 of water and bleach mix and dump a 20# bag of Ice and drive around for a few mins and drain it and fill it once and drain it again.

So even if you use bleach in the fresh water and rince it out you will not taste it?
JDMeister
No

I use a 1/4 cup of bleach to treat 100+ gallons in the tank and I ALWAYS smell it and taste it! hahah

i have to fill and flush 4 times after the bleaching...

but i gota admit bleach REALLY cleans stuff up in there.. some of my hoses are clear and i can see whats in there and if they are exposed to sunlight they are GREEN on the inside... as soon as bleach touches them... its GONE

All the above is correct. I would drain the water heater by removing the 7/8 plug and drain it too. Then add bleach, and fill the fresh tank. Also, don't forget to pull the low point drains, to remove any bad water from the system. The water heater can be really bad if it's been a while since it's been drained. Just flush it a few times with your fresh water hose until the water is clean (or turn on city water and flush the water heater). You may have to replace the anode rod, if it's bad. Mine only has a white plastic plug in it. Be careful if your drain plug is your 110V heating element, disconnect the wires before removing it.

I use about a cup of baking soda to get rid of the taste and smell of bleach. Works like a charm.

Shouldn't really have a taste if you don't use too much bleach.

When we were stationed in Turkey, and lived downtown, we had to put Clorox in our drinking water and let it sit for a few hours before we could drink it. Not too much bottled back in them days (1980-1982)

I live in Chandler Az and even the water out of the faucet in the house tastes and smells horible. So I guess I am used to it. It smells better than it did.

How do you get ice in the fresh water tank? I have used this method for the black tank but not the fresh.

Outside water fill hole on the WW is pretty large just takes a sec. to do
GLAMISCOYOTE
Cool. Mine not only is too small, but the hose goes up before it goes down into the tank.

cool everyone and THANK YOU!!!. I filled it up with a half gallon of bleach, now let it sit for a hour or so and then start draining it and then flush it a few times. One crazy thing is with this MH that i have no fresh water drain valve, so i have to run the pump and turn on sinks. I hope that does not hurt the pump running for a long time?

Might be a good time to install a drain. It will take forever without it.

I'm willing to bet you that there is a fresh water drain, you just have to find it. Don't make me drive to Yuma Danno

if its the motorhome i think it is then no there is no drain for the fresh water.
fastcorvairs
Got to be a drain. Just can't beleave a mfg would install tanks with out one in it.
BigBlockTank
I worked for RV dealerships for almost 14 years, and I never saw a trailer, or MH without a drain. Low point drains in most of the MH's too
sandcar361
Don't forget if you have a water filtration system on your motorhome then pull the filter out before you run bleach thru the system.
