Let me first start off by saying that I'm new to off roading.
With that said, I'd like to extend the length of my rear axle of my 82 Honda 250R. Does anybody know who makes them and how it affects the ride?

Welcome to the board
My brother had some axle extenders on his 1981 250R and they make it more stable. It was a fun bike to ride. I do not know who makes them, but I am sure someone here knows.

Does the 82 have a different bolt pattern then the newer ones?
A guy I work with has an 82 and that thing is practically an atc90 with a 250r air cooled engine! The axle on that thing is tiny.

I am thinking you could go one of two ways:
One, get spacers for the wheels, I had these on the front of my warrior and they worked great, think they are made by dura-blue, cost is around $100, that is for 2 1 1/2" spacers and 8 extend a bolts
Two, replace the rear axel completely, I did this on my raptor, also works well, it is adjustable from +1" to + 4" depending on how you configure the spacers, cost was about $350, it is chrome and also made by dura-blue
I got both these products from Alba Action Sports in Poway

Durablue is good, but i think lonestar has a lifetime warranty, and the RPM has either a year warranty or maybe not one at all, but RPM axles are strong, very strong they dont need a warranty
how do you adjust the durablu axle?

Yeah, would'nt want to catch air on a wheeler. Just take your golf cart or couch and do it

I've got a pair of aluminum 4" extentions on my Yamaha Tri-z 250 and I must say that they change the bike quite a bit.
Turning is MUCH harder but once you get used to it you can use the extra stability to just S l i d e around the corners without too much trouble!
Clearance is a big issue also.

Can I just buy them or do I need to order them and how long will it be.

for my raptor and warrior they had them in stock, fairly common bikes, but you might have to order yours since it is not as common as some other bikes, good luck

Shocker, to adjust the axel, it has a 1/2" and a 1" spacer on each side of the axel, if you want it the widest put the spacers on the inside of the hub, if you want it more narrow, put the hub on first then the spacers then the nut, make sense? I can take pics if you like and post them

Mine came on the bike when I purchassed it used so I don't know where they came from... but they are simple chunks of aluminum milled and drilled to fit on the hub and then the tires go on... using real long GOOD bolts.
I would think that strength is an issue and would never jump the thing set up like that, but otherwise it just makes the bike ride like a quad... you don't get up on two wheels often... but you MUST brake to turn... it won't turn at all if you are accelerating so if you are hauling ass you have to slide the rear around... it takes a bit of practice... but it works well.

Oh ok, at one of my races i was watching one of the pros take off his wheels and he had those spacers and i was wondering what they were, lol i should of known,
whats the bolt pattern on your wheeler? if its 4x100 i have some spacers, and if its 4x110 then just order some 400ex or z400 wheel spacers

If it is an 82 then it is way different than the water cooled 85 and even way smaller than the air cooled 84. If I remember right the 82 and 83 are similar. I don’t think it has what is now the standard Honda bolt pattern. But I could be wrong. It’s also doesn’t have a standard hub like on any current model. Damn, I wish the guy I work with wasn’t on vacation so I could go check his out.
SDSandMan, if you have access to a digi-cam I’d love to see some pics.
FYI: if you’re looking for a DuraBlue axle (or other products by them) for a current bike, i.e. 85 and newer, Rockymountain sells them for a good price. And they do have a lifetime warranty...but you only get one free replacement (no warranty on the replacement).
