Well we had a bad day yesterday, our 1 1/2 yr old dog got hit by a Land Rover!!! She came out pretty good for getting run over, fracture of the pelvis and tail where it meets the spine, and well have to have half her tail amputated! This is the first time we had anything like this with our dogs. After all said is done with the over night stay and surgery today were looking at close to $4000!!!!!! I swore I would never pay anything like that but that goes out the door when your kids and wifey are wanting their dog back home.

So what is the deal with pet insurance?? Is it a big scam?? Anyone have any insight?? Is it actually worth it?? I have not looked into it yet but I have heard about it and just wanna see if it is a viable option! We can't take another hit like that anytime soon!!

I have PetFirst insurance for my mutt and ill tell you its worth every damn penny!!!

They have different plans, different limits, i have something for accidental coverage cost my like $19 a month i think...?

Parvo, Antifreeze poisoning, Broken Toe from being a dumbass.... covered, even the meds!! Except the toe actually, they wanted $2500 to fix it cause of the way it broke, or $500 to cut it off needless to say my dog is missing a toe but they did cover the 500 for that!!

Ive only had the insurance for about a year and half and ive gotten about $3500 outta them.

Glad to hear your pup made it out alive!!

I just blew $5,200 for one of my mini doxies! My wife was distraught and the thought of losing her "child" was too much for me to bear so I paid up.

I bought I insurance from Healthy Paws the next day.

We have VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) for our dogs. Money well spent. It's like $290.00 per year per dog. The 1st year it paid for itself, my dog ate rat poison, next year, rattlesnake bite. It's an awesome feeling not having to worry about the vet bill.

Here is there web site.

I have it for $24/mo...10% deductible up to $20,000 in bills. My mom used it on her dog and only paid $200 for a $2000 bill when her dog ate a rock and had to have surgery.

I would never own a pet without it.

Dude! I had no idea. Was that the puppy at Evelyn's shower/BBQ? $4,000!!!!!!!!! Couldn't do it myself, not even when I had a job. Guess I'll tell Alicia to look into pet insurance. We dropped $1500 on my last Bull Mastiff's knee and had to put her down due to some rare disease (Chylothorax) a year later.

Glad to hear the dog is doing well. Come see us sometime at home or the race shop.

VPI here too! Great insurance. Our boxer has had some skin tumors and it has paid for itself already by far.

Is all I got to say, is right on, you guys are ballers! I wonder what our wives and kids did 20 years ago when things like this happened. I guess they became emotional wrecks and never got over it. Vet school, here I come, with a double major in pet Psychology!!
