Ok so I just came with a new Raptor today. I can't even imagine going to Glamis for Pres. day
with a stock bike. What paddles, pipe, jet kit, rear axle, air cleaner, etc. I only have a few days left so any help would be appreciated. I understand there are a few Predators that need a spankin'

Get a GYTR slip on, the factory head pipe is fine for anything but big compression pistons. Prodesign filter. K&N jet kit. That will seriously wake up the bike.

Get Skat Trak 22x11x8 8 paddle haulers on douglas blue label wheels and mohawk tires up front. Don't for the LIFE of you get Gecko tires, even if someone gives them to you.

Call Prowlers Speed and Custom and order the tires first thing tomorrow.

Hey here's a tip for you. The only way to make a Craptor faster, is to sell it. [Big Grin] I was riding my friends today and I finally understood what people meant by it being kinda tippy. Those things are WAY narrower and shorter than a Predator. But overall I guess its a "decent" quad. I am still happier I got my Predator. Spend all the money you want on a pipe, filter, and jet kit cuz the Predator is 160cc less and it still is faster!!! What the Craptor really needs is a whole bunch of balls. I dont know where it can find some at cuz ya really kinda cant buy those. Anyhow have fun with it while it lasts.

I am running the Full Yoshi pipe and I am happy with the gains across the power band. Definately get the ProFlow with K&N and Outerwear. Lid Off. K&n/Dynojet kit. All of this and you'll be able to smoke the Pooplaris Pretaturd owners with the complex (Mr. Yi) [Roll Eyes] all day long.

I am running the Geckos and overall I am happy with their performance. I haven't run anything else to compare. But the front end hardly touches the ground now, so I am judging they are hooking up pretty well. They may be heavier than some of the lighter paddle tires but overall they are a good all around duning tire.

Ya I hope he can smoke me all day long especially with those wonderful mods you recommend him to do just to beat a Predator. I guess the price keeps going up on the raptors with all these mods you gotta buy to keep up!!!

Then again I guess it doesnt matter when you have a bunch of cash sitting next to you huh. Only if you were a poor kid like me then you would undestand how its like to have to be happy with what we got [Mad]

I've got an '03 Raptor and asked the same questions. Here are the answers.

1. Tires: Razors on ITP rims (.190", Douglas are more expensive) front and Sand Skate IIs on ITP rear. They kick up a lot of sand, if that bothers you, go with Sand Sharks. DO NOT get Geckos - they hook alright for slower bikes (Like Preds) but you'll be very unhappy, especially if you pipe/jet your bike.

2. Widening: If you plan to get a lot of air, eventually you should buy wider A-arms and Lonestar axles (better warr.) If you want wider but don't jump much, you can go with Durablue EZ-fit spacers, 1.5" ea. side in front, 2.5" ea. side rear, they work great. I've blown both tires off the front rims and bent 2 tie-rods, but have yet to bend an axle, a-arm or hub. Bike feels VERY stable.

3. Engine: I bought the CT Sonic pipe, K&N Pro Design filter and jet kit. It was a very complete kit and it allegedly dyno'd at 49hp.

NOW, I'd recommend the MBRP full stainless pipe (avail for under $500 from Craycraft Racing) due to the performance I saw on the dyno.

Step 1: go to www.rockymountainatv.com and order a Pro Design FOAM air filter kit (with billet adapter), a 12 tooth front sprocket, a range of Mikuni jets from 150 to 175, and whatever misc. stuff you need. Oil the air filter really well and install. Install new tires. Don't bother to rejet or install the sprocket, just break the bike in for 1st 10 hrs and get the dealer service. Use your choke to check if it's lean, if it runs better with the choke on just a little, use it until you rejet.

Step 2: Install sprocket, MBRP pipe, remove airbox lid and rejet the bike. It will really wake up.

Step 3: Get the swingarm lengthened about 4", because you're gonna get tired of the front tires alwyas pointing at the sky.

Don't take any cr@p from any Predators, either. They're slow, and their bikes are, too. [Smokin]

DO NOT GET THE GECKOS..... !!!!!

I thought they were great paddles UNTIL I got a free pair of Skate IIs.. Geckos went flat and I tossed on the Skates.. big difference in hookup and slide.. Plus top end was better.. I dont know any specifics on paddles (new to them still) but the skates way out performed the Geckos.. IMO..

If you really want Geckos, I will sell you my old ones.. They are still in perfect shape..

I've been a 250R rider for a long time, I saw the Frist Predator out there at like new years. I saw it spank a crap load of Banshee's and Raptor's. You pay more for a raptor to begin with, then on top of that you have to spend another 2G's in motor and suspension mods just to make it perform like a stock predator!

What are you Yamaha guys thinking? Wait until there's 2G's worth of mods to do to the Predator. Then what are you gonna do?

Getting a full pipe on a stock Raptor is a waste of money, it is has been proven over and over again that the factory headpipe flows more than enough for the factory bore and compression. Just get a slip-on and save money.

Gecko's are the worst paddles I have ever tried. Heavy and provide little flotation. Any paddle is better than no paddle, but Gecko's are the worst I have ever seen. Pay a bit more and get Skat Trak Haulers in a 8 paddle version. Either 21 or 22" x 11 x 8 is perfect.

ITP .190" wheels are TOO heavy and rob power. Get Douglas Blue Label wheels unless you are doing 10' air's.

Since we do more duning then drag racing I think the Sand Skate type tire would be the better option. Sizes??? Also, front tire size has been discussed several times...would the general consensise be 22's over 21's. [Beer] [Beer] [Beer] [Beer]

I have never seen a drag Raptor, but one day I am sure there will be. We all dune 90% of the time and shoot the hill for fun. The Sand Skates would be my second choice for a Glamis sand tire. Get the tallest Skate you can on a 8" wheel (douglas blue label). Sand is all about weight and moving sand, reduce weight and go faster so go as light as you can on anything you can buy. 21" is perfect for the front on a Raptor.

If you want you could just get wheel spacers in the rear and the deep off-set Douglas Banshee wheels up front and that would be a low budget and effective way of widening the Raptor for the dunes.

Raptor 727, why do you suggest the 8" wheel over the 10" wheel? More cushion? I can get either 10 x 8 or 8 x 8.5. [Beer] [Beer] [Beer] [Beer]

thanks chum! this is my 1st ride,i have the geckos, and i don't know if there good or sh@t! im going to try the skat-trak edges for the dunes on my piped & jetted kfx. [Spin]
DUNERAIDER
I love my Raptor,,, I only suggest:

Run fresh premium fuel,, really is noticeable over Regular,

Keep your stock rims and Dunlops for rainy days when the dunes are wet,, run much better than paddles in wet sand and at Rocky places like Dumont.

If your girlfriend rides it,, it'll spoil her and you'll never get her back on the 250EX.

Jet up a size or two,, and make sure if a shop does it,, they know what they're doing and they're hearts in their work,,
