Thinking this may be the way to o for some street fun between dune trips. Anyone done it? What shocks/lowering kit did ya go with? KW Suspension makes some shocks and the Maxxis TT are the tire of choice.

I have always dreamed of an R1 Raptor slammed to the ground like that!!! Flat corners would be so much fun!

Ha Ha. I love the last line.... "He's got some issues"

I would love to ride that thing.

We just got done doing that race at ET. It was FAST! 5th gear the entire time and almost on the rev limiter at the end of the straights! Hope they have us quads there again.

It's a blast riding the quads (& Teryx) around town "legally". Buddy of mine used to ride his Z400 to work every day. Said he used to get 28mpg.

Currently in the planning ($$$$) stages of getting a street legal quad together with a street bike motor. It'll still be a while but I'll post pic's with progress WHEN I get that far. For now the pic would be of a single dollar bill 'cuz that's all I got so far (& I had to borrow it).

I usually mess something up when I try to post a link to a You Tube video but, this (if it works) is from the race this past Saturday night. Hopefully one of these work.

It looks so low that it reminds me of dragging my toe (shifting gear foot) in the sand while g-ing out. Hope you don't leave any toes on the street!

I'm sure it would be bad ass to ride legally down the street or highway on one, what scares me is the number of close calls on my 10R, that or any quad lowered would be even harder to see. My wife would triple or quadruple my insurance coverage.

I got Duro Top fighters and wheels from Rocky Mountain.. 18x10x10 rear and 19x6.5x10 front.. 400 delivered to my door... I gotta tell you, I haven't even lowered it yet and it is an absolute blast to ride... slide to the inside of the seat and hammer it and slide it around a left turn through an intersection at 45 mph..

thinking about doing this to the kfx 400 I'm getting ready to pick up. what does it take to lower it, just different shocks?

It has an extended aftermarket rear axle and front wheel spacers.. it is pretty wide.. lowering it widens the front a couple more inches also..you can see by the pic how far the tires are past the nerfs..

Are you getting your raptor street legal. what do we need to do to make it street legal other than get a rearview mirror and inspection? do they check to see if your tires are DOT approved? your tires look bitchen too!

go to an independent title company. Get your offroad plate and offroad tag which I think is 25.00, then get the on road tag which is an additional 5.00 if I remember right..Tell them it is primarily offroad but you want the on road endorsement. If you tell them you want it street legal then get the offroad tag is will cost you 3 times as much dunno.gif

What that does is makes it where it is registered for offroad, but when you need to ride it on the street to get to the next trail, get gas, or whatever, it is legal. Which means you can ride it all over town with no issues.. No inspection, just sign a waiver.. All it needs it a mirror and a horn (which I don't have ahorn) but I have not been hassled at all..

edit to add mine has been street legal for over 2 years.. oh, and you need insurance, but that is way cheap. Costs me around 100 a year..

way easy.. I went to a bicycle shop and bought a 12 dollar bar end mirror. It just goes inside the end of the handlebars, works great..

got the lowering kit on it today.. Frame is an even 4" with me on it.. This thing handles like a slot car.. Even the wife was out raving it around the neighborhood.. she wants to ride it to work..

Just for clarification before anyone jumps the gun, thats his daughter on the quad, not his wife. Hey John, did you put a horn on it?

lmao.gif good clarification... No I didn't put a horn on it yet, but plan to.. Passed 2 different sheriffs just now when I was out running around. Neither one even took a second look..
Exotica1
Mine has a honda civic horn wired in. Freaks people out when they hear it and see a quad.

Here is a sneak peek at mine. I picked up the project bike and just got some parts. Yes, when you see the pictures its got dirt tires on the back and sand tires on the front. Thats because one of the front wheels (with dirt tires) was severely bent. And yes, the left rear tire is low because it has a leak. So basically all the tires I got with it were pretty much toast except the front sand tires and the c-series wheels. The exhaust looked and sounded empty, like an open pipe all the way. That was the first thing to go. The 6 pack rack is coming off as well as the plastics and the c-series wheels, they will all be for sale.
Crowbar
Got the new kicks and 1 1/2 inch spacers on the rear today. mocked up my horn button and mirror. decided the mirror is not going to work there. tomorrow maybe I'll make it to emmissions and then get my street legal sticker for the plate. If I had more time and mechanical skill I think I would strip it and get the frame re-done in black. more to come!!

Re-pack the Silencer. It's easy and cheap.

I had an issue with the mirror also, couldn't see past my shoulder. I went to a bicycle shop and got a bar end mirror, works great. 12 bucks.. zero out the front toe alignment. That will take the wander out of the bike..
mellen_mpz
I am still impressed at how much power/punch your raptor has John. I had an 05' 660. Yours is in a different league with that engine work.
