i came across this board a few weeks ago and have been checking it out. this is my fist attempt to say anything because 1. computer illiterate (better make that totally illiterate) 2. not a mechanic, haven't had anything intelligent to add.

anyway a friend down the street is who has rode dirt bikes for twenty years has got a 82 250r threewheeler thats falling apart and a couple of other older sport quads for the wife and kids. he is looking to get himself a quad to replace the threewheeler and is on a two grand buget. he's under six feet, about 175 lbs and has been looking at used blasters and warriors. i'm trying to convince him that he's going to be dissapointed in the power after the 250. i rode with him once at oceano and was pushing the old r for all it was worth.

he is now looking at 80's suzuki lt250s as they are quite a bit less than hondas but is concerned about how they hold up.

i've never know anybody that had one so i don't really know what to tell him (i've had my share of problems with my 90 'zilla, but maybe the 250s were better).

any comments appreciated.

Their should be good old Banshees for around 2 bills.

I know lots of people say their Banshee is worth 10 grand,, but really that's what they have in it.

If ya shop and be patient,, Banshees that were garaged and not ridden much, bone stock do pop up and for not much more than 2 bones.

At least thats what ya offer them.

What they got in it, what they ask for it and what they get for it are all different numbers.
Prime buying season will be here when summer hits.

I had good luck with my Quadracer, especially as a playbike. Like Raider dude said, IF you watch the TRADER every night online and get it when it hits the stand first thing you might find an old and semi-abused Banshee for <$2500. This would be the best path fwd. in my opinion as well.

yeah everyone says suzuki quads suck and i was one til i owned one for a while. i rode it hard and as long as you can take care of it there shouldnt be a problem i even sold the bike for $2100 so yeah a suzuki is possible. the only problem is the trannies can be hard to locat parts for cuz i had the motor totally rebuilt($1000 into the motor) and they could locate very few tranny parts that were made. that was the biggest problem for my suzuki. other than that they are good toys. but i eventually went to the lighter side and got a banshee.

Anything used is going to need work, I Bought my 1985 LT250 about 4 years ago for $1100 and it ran kind of, I have rebuilt the engine, swingarm, stator, new chain and little stuff like that, now i have a quad that runs good (will be great when i get thru the tuning thing) and I probably have less than $2500 invested total in the bike and all the while I was riding it. Banshees are fine had one of them too, but you know when you buy a used one it is probably thrashed and they can be expensive to fix. Stick with the honda fourtrax or suzuki LT and your fine.
