why would ya do that? the Z frames do have some problems but when i do decide to powdercoat (which will be a long time) i will put the rest of the gussets on it, but why would you by another frame?

sd powdercoating off of magnolia. did my KTM frame in a 2 stage powder, along with clutch cover, ignition cover, 2 powervalve covers, both footpegs, and the spring for $250 OTD. looks awesome. looks normal inside, but as soon as it hits the sunlight, the thing lights up like the fourth of july. they have some awesome powder, and a fast turn-around. if you need the number let me know, or just cruise by, right across from the taco bell pretty much (and towards the airport a bit)

Powder 1 in El Cajon does 250R frames for 250ish.
Mine came out great and it's tough to scrape off.
Z's should be the same + the cost of stronger PC to help 'glue' the zuki frame together

Yeah but how muc hstress do you put on your Z? are you hauling through the dunes jumping non stop, the only reason i gusseted it is because ive been riding pretty hard on track and im also runnig +2 arms with stock shocks and thats why i gusseted the shock mounts, besides once i do ever get it PC'ed ill gusset it then

well lets see....
i just spent a week in the oregon dunes...rode prolly three times a day...prolly did 6-8 hours of ridin each day...
normallly i ride up above silverwod on sundays...to big bear and back...its maybe 50-60 miles of single track trails...
im not a huge jumper...and ive riden glen helen and pomna (when it was open

) a few times....
im not a huge jumper...so that could be the reason my frame is still fine...
to me the Z is far from the best choice in the sand (way underpowered) but on the trails the bike is a dream.

i agree 100%. if you want this thing to be a serious race bike then make it into one the right way. i know there are a few specialized companies, if you research, that make frames for your bike or in the near future will be makin them. this doesnt mean you should buy a full rollin chassis but just the frame.
basically what mike330r is doing but for a race bike.
the frame would be lighter than stock and probably just as strong or stronger.
if you think about it, your a kid right now. just turning 16 or 17 and if you keep racing and get a sponser or two then you can afford it. and who knows by the time your 20 or so if you kept at it you might be like some of these big racers you talk about.
but for all in all keep going and doing what your doing to your bike and keep at it.
thats my $.02

Aug 4 2004, 12:51 PM
Yeah i would go out and spend money on a new frame, but there is no way i could ever afford one, im tight in money, now, i just got me some rear 18" klaws and thats the alst thing i will be getting for a while, i just turned 16 and dont get my license until end of september, and i have to save up for gas and insurance, but i did ask the question so i know how much i need to save up seperately when i get a job to work around my school and practice hours, now i know that my Z frame will be just fine when i gusset all the necessary problem spots,
heck this is more first time racing, well besides my 3 other races, and i have only riden at elsinore 4 times and have riden el cajon 2,
el cajon by far is the harder and more punishing to my bike, if ya guys get a chance and i show you my skid ya will know how rough el cajon is to it, i dont know why but just practicing on el cajon has totally beat up my chassis skid, its an alba skid and it is really strong about 1/4" thick, and it has huge scratches and dents in it, and spot where it looked like i took a grinder to it, i think by far this has been one of m best investments, i think most of it is because i have +2 arms and stock shocks, now when i do save up for PC'ing im going to also save up for shocks, so i think i will get some front shocks and then get my frame PC'ed, i dont need top of the line elkas or custom axis or pep, it would be nice but theres no way in hell i could afford that, aslong as i have some owrks with rezies or TCS's with rezzies set-up for my weight and +2 arms and riding style ill be set, also at el cajon the tunrs are alot tighter and when it take inside or out my front shocks have so muc hextra leverage from the arms they compress alot when taking hard or even soft turns and i get lots of body roll, no matter what it stil ldoes it and i do my best, i dont have so much of a problem at elsinore with it though
now about my bike not being and mx'er, i understand its not the best bike for racing mx, but heck i dont care, it is underpowered compared to the new 450's but its still all about the rider, look at effinbees77 he smokes 450's off the line and during the race, its all about the rider
i think im doing very well so far in this being my first season racing, i got 5th out of 5th at my first race, my second race i poped a tire, and then my 3rd i got 9th out of 13, i could of done better but there was some pretty bad problems in the first moto, one was it was a diferent series and they had diferent rules and the scond is my bike was acting weird my first moto and then ran flawless the second moto,
thx for the support ya guys and im ghoping ya can see it from what im seeing

SHOCKER - Do the prep work yourself...I'm getting quoted $120-140 from the east county shops.
SHOCKER
Aug 4 2004, 01:40 PM
What do you mean prep work? liek bead blasting it and cleaning it in solvent? theres no way i would be able to strip the whole frame of PC and primer, because theres alot of crevises and stuff a sandpaper wheel wont get into, besides by the time i get money and stuff it will be in the middle of the desert season or racing season, the only time i will have is between races, becasue i have school starting soon then i will be getting a jopb and then i have soccer now, then highschool soccer, then spring select soccer and hawaii next summer, soo i really want to do this but im going to have to wait and plan it perfect, i think maybe right after my last trip to the dunes for the season i might have time to do it, or when i go to hawaii i can send it out before and get it after,
but dang thats a good price

Aug 4 2004, 01:46 PM
Get a heavy duty metal stripper. I'm going to work on it tonight on my Banshee frame, I'll let you know how it goes...
SHOCKER
Aug 4 2004, 02:03 PM
Is it like a paint stripper, or what? yeah let me know how it works, i mean $140 to PC my frame is a great great price, i wonder how much to PC it candy apple blue
here is a pic someone photoshoped for me, i dont like how they did the hubs and the a-arms but i like the frame

Well the people telling him to buy a new frame. Need to do a little homework. Gussetting the frame will make it stronger than a new LRD aluminum frame. As several people now have a problem with that frame breaking. It must be a problem with the design, since LRD no longer makes frames.
Yamiboy
Aug 4 2004, 03:57 PM
im just sayin he seems to be really into racing and sounds like he wants to take this to the next level. and gussetting the frame is a good idea but he might want to reserch and see if someone out there makes a frame that works for him.
the frame idea(only when i spoke about it) would be years down the line and when he was into some serious level racing.
but sounds like the youngester is on his way.
