Ok I have a old azz motor home, I thought that the reason the hot water heater kept going out was I was just out of propane. Got it filled today, It lite up fine but then after about 2 min. the flame went out. I light the Pilot again and it worked for about 2 min. Now all i can do is light the Pilot and it never fires up no matter how long i leave the pilot on. Ever see this before?
Thanks

Yep, couldn't get mine to stay on either. Turned out there was a TINY piece of sand in the gas line, the end of the line is similar to a carb jet. Got a needle and cleaned it out. Works great ever since.

Agree with KM Duner, probably just dirty. Mine has done that before, ended up being dirty. I just blew it out with compressed air and it worked fine after that.

x 3, just dirt or spider web in the pilot line

What line do i need to clean out? The Pilot will stay lit until i turn it to on then everything goes out.

He pilot is just the flame, it's not getting consistant propane to stay lit. The gas line should be a long metal tube, if you take it apart you'll see the line or "jet" I'm talking about

The inlet to the main valve is very big. is that the line i need to take apart? The valve being the thingy with the off, on, and pilot knob?

Should be a tube that connects to that and flows towards the pilot. Trace where the propane is flowing from and too. Clean everything in that path.

but the pilot light will stay lit. Its only when i turn the knob to on that everything goes out.

I just blew air in there with out removing the sleeve, but didn't change a thing. All though im just using air in a can. Seems the sleeve is just a few inches from the main valve. Not sure how that would shut all gas off to both the pilot and what ever makes it turn on.

Might need a new motherboard.

does it have a thermocouple? that could be the problem

I doubt it has a mother board if it is an old azz motorhome as described. IIRC, the pilot line is a small tube that runs parallel to the main line. The main line probably has a restriction as described above.

Replaced the Thermocouple and that wasn't it. Turned out the gas control valve went bad. Replaced it and warm water again
