Then torsions could have been stockers which are also very old,Could have been swaped from left to right sides which is not good since twist is already in them and now it gets reversed.

I have been using sway aways for a while been really happy so far. but by the time you get them and decent fox/king res shocks it may get pricey but there are always used ones to buy for half of new.Same goes for coil overs too.As for motor may want to look for a watercooled unless its a quick fix cause a strong vw with decent power will be pricey to build prob around 4k turn key when you can go get an ecotec, radiator, adapter, and harness for close to that and will have the same or more hp

Sounds like fun...

yeah i took the torsions out and they are the original 22mm's. i am going to try 27mm and am considering a chevy ecotech and ditching the vw

IMO 27mms may be a tad stiff i have a 4 seater car thats 1350-1375 pounds at most.(last i weighed it was 1350) i am using 25mm bars from sway away. They are the long bars for IRS and fox shocks. With the shocks valved for my driving it feels really good.

Another prob with stiffer bars is that the splines in the center torsion can break or strip out from the heavier bars.I know on my frame the builder says no more than 25mm.You could also have a problem with the rear end acting like a pogo stick if car is light.

ok im switchn to the 25s as i have the 21 3/4's. the vw was a total loss rods hangin out of the cases so im going to pursue the ecotech!
