hey guy's, a little input would be appreciated. what seems to be the ticket to setting up the stock suspension on the new XP. i dont have enough seat time in a XP to really have it figured out, i drive mostly high speed rutted up, whooped out mountain trails, kinda like a motorcross terrain. i know when they first came out people were complaining of "bucking" in the rear, but my new one doesn't seem too bad. there is always room for fine tuning, so whats the answer, less preload, more preload, softer comp, stiffer comp, more air in the tires etc.... what have you guy's tried that helps.

thanks for your input, Earle

Not sure what you need but I've got a set of Cognito's XP shocks on order, supposed to be in this week. I need to keep the springs, retainers, etc....but I'll have the main shocks available and for sale. Not sure if they will make it in before thanks giving. I'll post up when they come in.

I run as little pre-load as possible and have been playing with the adjuster knob. So far in the rear I am running zero preload with the rear tires off the ground and about 10 clicks in on the adjuster knob. So far seems to be limiting the buck and it only bottoms out on the really big hits, as the springs break in I think I'll need to add a little more preload. Up front I am running a little more preload to keep the front ground clearance same on the adjuster about 10 clicks in. Headed to Ocotillo this weekend so I'll play around with the shocks and see what I come up with. Got a set of Cognito's on order this weekend will determine whether or not I "Need" them or if they are just bonus material. smile.gif

Chris

hey Chris i think your on the right track with the preload set up, i set my front springs 1 complete turn tighter on the spanner nut for a little more preload, and the rear is 2 turns loose on the spring for less preload. i run about 12-14 psi with stock bighorns, i dont want a bunch of side wall bounce. with the rear jacked up & tires off the ground i can turn the spring fairly easy, but not to the point of flopping around. is that about where your's is set? my comp is 5 clicks out front (stiff) and the rear is 14 clicks out (soft). the bummer is it rained sunday so i couldn't go try it...lol. keep me posted after this weekend and let me know how that set up worked.

This made a huge improvement for me:

Rear off the ground, back off springs til they just touch the adjuster rings. Run them down half an inch from there. Adjust compression nob 2 clicks softer than factory, which is 10 clicks out.

Front off the ground, back off springs til they just touch adjuster rings. Run them down 1.5 inches. Leave compression as is, 10 clicks out.

Made a big improvement on low-mid speed chopped up terrain.....like the big buggy tracks, small stutter bumps, etc. Doesn't buck like it did at first either.

Just got in from the first trip out with ours (Dumont), kids put almost 300mi on it, suspension worked pretty well out of the box. FYI do not go too low on the rear tire pressure for the sand. I was running the Bighorns at 8psi and one came off the bead beer.gif
