I'm looking at installing a backup camera on the trailer. I would like to replace the factory radio in the truck, with one of the radio/dvd players, double din size that has the option for back up cameras. Has any one used this type ? I'm looking at Sony, Kenwood, Alpine. Any pros. or cons. Thanks' I put this in general Chat thinking more people would see this.

I have a Jensen double din nav/dvd/ipod/xm/etc unit in my truck and I installed a camera in the center of the lic plate that shows on the monitor anytime I put the truck in reverse. My head unit has addition video rca inputs that I guess one like you could use for an additional back up camera. You would just have to manually turn it on by selecting the correct 'source" on the radio. Id say just find one of those bracket mounted cameras (I included a link below) and run the rca and power wire all the way to the front of the traler. The power wire could be spliced with the trailer light/brake connection and you would just need to leave enough slack in the rca cable and also have one under the bumper of the truck that is already plugged into the head unit. Then its just a matter of plugging it in. I know there are wireless versions out there but then you have to run a seperate screen which it seems you don't want to do anyways.

Thank you. Glad I could help. Yea- having everything in one unit looks clean and is less of a pain in the ass IMO... Be sure you get a camera that has at least a 120 degree angle. Anything under that won't give you a very good view of whats around the trailer. They make some pretty neat ones with built in microphones so you can hear someone guiding you to back up if needed.
