County Leaders Propose Off-Road Ban On Private Property

(Note: Please think about the implications to a farmer/rancher using such vehicles for the day-to-day operation of a business. Think about what you think property rights mean, and if this proposed county-wide ordinance fits your description. If you have contacts in Pima County, Arizona, this one needs to be nipped in the bud, pronto! Needed: New county leaders!)

A ban may be in the works in Pima County [Arizona] on what you are allowed to do in your own backyard.

County leaders have taken a step that could eventually ban the use of off-road vehicles on private property.

The proposal has been brought before the board by planning and zoning, because east side residents complained about a neighbor who runs a track on his 10-acre parcel.

A county ordinance would ban off-road vehicles in residential zones.
Debbie Anderson works nights as a nurse. Sometimes the noise keeps her awake when she needs her sleep. But to her, safety is what's more important.

"I have seen small kids riding small motorcycles, which is not good, without helmets," said Anderson.

"We need to see a lot more people wearing helmets, protective gear," said Russell Hacker, a rider. "Quit ripping up and down neighborhood roads for sure. Walking the bikes across the road, stuff like that."

Hacker says he's part of a majority of riders who do things right. He says it's getting tough to find good space to ride ATVs, and a county ordinance would make it a lot tougher. He thinks it's an overreaction.

"That's going a little far, especially if you own 10 acres. I can understand after 10 o'clock at night, something like that, but if it's during the day, start it up 8 o'clock in the morning, go ahead and go, you know? I don't see any problem with that at all."

Thats BS!! You should be able to do whatever you want on your acres of land. I can understand not building a track in your front yard in a bunch of track homes but this is crap.

There are reasons they pay nurses a premium to work nights.
Some of them include:

Its hard to sleep during the day.
The banks & DMV are closed when you are awake.
The meter reader, mailman & pool cleaner wake you up.

And refusing to save ourselves.

Everything is everyone else's responsibility.

When I worked nights, and lived next to a preschool with an active and noisy playground, I learned the miracle of earplugs and foam padding to block out some of the light and noise.

I did not require the children to QUIET DOWN OVER THERE so I could get some sleep.

Sheesh.

that is BS, I plan on buying around 10+ acres and hell ya I am putting a track on it, stupid people,

Oh yeah... and some of those kids were behaving mighty recklessly... running around all the time, climbing on stuff. VERY unsafe.

Double sheesh.

Nice that they are worried about others safety and their OPTIONAL (no helmet law in Arizona) use of helmets and other protective gear. I wonder if they are also concerned that the kids have a balanced diet and are doing well in school. EFF people that can't mind their own effing business! 25brdflick.gif

As for ripping through the neighborhood... that is already illegal. If someone is tearing azz down the street at 2am they have every right within the law to call and complain, file a report... whatever, but as for making it illegal on your own private property... that is complete and total BS. angryfire.gif

I would be willing to bet that "urban sprawl" has something to do with this ...

bet that the person(s) biatching about this didn't do their homework
when searching for a house ....

also bet that this "track" was there BEFORE the subdivision
was built ....
