Im in the same boat.

looking for 2 seat in car and car to car comm system.

If i cant find anything used soon Im going to buy http://www.pciraceradios.com/ProductDetail...141973410644993

ya 1050 is a lot... especially without headsets. but I have a buddy who will toss me some head sets until i find some used ones online.

The deal on here earlier today for the rugged for 600 bucks was a steal. I tried to get those but sold before I got in touch with him.

If you want just in car comm I dont think the brand matters. but if you want car to car id try to go with pci or rugged
mike
Yeh, Ive ran PCI in all my previous cars and race radios etc, but for this play car I just need the headsets and i-pod for music .

For 599.00 , this link seemed like a good deal, but if its junk, Ide prefer to pay more than have any regrets .

bajapro is selling a used PCI 2 seater system with radio for $600. Great price if it's still avail.
J Alper
I would use Alper Motorsports, I heard they have a good deal on Radios, and they are the highest of quality with only Hi-Fi speakers and Volume control with the piggy-tail disconnect for a killer price.

I have had pci and rugged , rugged has an option for a digital speach processor , to my knowledge no one else does . Also the rugged headsets are much nicer than the ones I got from pci . They have sheep skin pad , gel ear pads , individual volume control and a 3.5 plug . I sold the car with the rugged setup but kept the rugged headsets .my opinion is go with rugged , they have great customer service and the products i have tried were atleast equal and like I said the headsets were far better . Imho . TIM

might be a stupid question-

but do pci and rugged work off the same frequencies/channels?

everyone in my group has pci but if i go the rugged route will i still be able to communicate with them?
mtrsportdan
Yes, PCI and Rugged come pre programmed with the pretty much the same channels.

I'm in the same boat. I talked to Kevin at Rugged Radios about a week ago.

A 2 place system, car-to-car, intercom w/ ipod connection, 2 helmet setups, 1 behind-the-head headset, was around $1050. I'm still trying to decide if I want to take the plunge.

For the most part, yes. PCI programs their radio with about 60 channels, Rugged programs theirs with about 30, and many of them overlap. If you want the lowest priced radios, with more power and a larger screen programmed with 112 channels (which cover all of the channels the others do, and then some) PM me.

I'd suggest buying the intercom kit form Rugged, and matching that up with a Yaesu 75 watt radio from me.

That's pretty cheap, considering that my 4 seater kit from PCI cost me $1900 a few years ago. That was with a 50 watt radio and a 1/2 wave antenna.

That's a great price!

I personally prefer over-the-head headsets, but some people prefer the behind-the-head. You can get either one from Rugged.

Or, if you're planning on really hauling butt, get 2 helmet kits and install them in full face street helmets. Really cuts down on sand in the hair, eyes, etc.

Im older and hope wiser now Steve.....no hauling butt for me anymore. I bought this car to just get back out there and relax after 4 years away from the sand. I will run a helmet if we take any faster runs, but really enjoyed the wind in my face last trip and having great vision with no helmet, hood, or windshield . I do need to buy some arm restraints, thats one safety item I think is piceless .

Back to the lightweight basics, no more 1000hp+ tranny eating machines for me. Ill be the guy watching Craig and Aaron from the sidelines at the drags , but may still keep up with them in the dunes sraptor.gif Hope to see you out there Steve, its been to long !!!

Rugged Great customer service. And you can build up as you go.

I have a couple systems I could sell. They are brand new, never hooked up, although 1 was used to mount some brackets in a chassis.

I'll get some picks of the other system, but below is one of the sets I have......

I know what these are worth (the radio unit alone is $400 http://www.twowayradioonline.com/IC208H.asp ) , but i've been sitting on them for years, so if someone offers the right amount, i'll let them go for a good price.....
