What are your best ideas, products that you use to make sure your chain is lubed?
(for Glamis riding)

I use Maxima chain wax, it seems to work well. I don't use it that often though. Chain life is usually good if you ride dunes only.

what about the infamous PJ1 Chain Lube?

PJ1 is good stuff for non o-ring chains. Messy as hell though and hard to clean. In Glamis or other dry conditions, chain wax is all that is needed on o-ring chains. Whatever you put on, it will fling off, no matter what it says on the can.

I USE CHAIN WAX AS WELL.... FIRST TRIP TO GLAMIS, MY DAD PUT -A LOT- OF PJ1 LUBE ON, THE LIQUID, NOT THE WAX (DO THEY MAKE WAX??) AND THE SAND STUCK TO IT, AND IT SOUNDED REALLY GRINDYISH.... I THINKT HAT MAKES SENCE....

I use this awesome chain wax, forgot the name of it though, goes on clear, stays clear and doesnt fling off, I think it is made by bell rey, comes in a black and bue can, I will try and find it, but I love it.

found it, it is Bel-Ray super clean chain lube, it says it is for o-ring chains, stupid question, what happens when you put in on a non o-ring chain?

All I use is WD-40. works great on O-ring chains, it keeps them from rusting and it doesn’t attract sand...

I have a can of the bel ray super clean. It flung all over my swingarm and frame, even after sitting over night.

It's fine for your non o-ring chain.

I use gunk liquid wrench.. Best stuff to keep my chain from rusting and to keep it smooth.. you spray it on and let it sit and you will most likely have to tighten your chain after (i had to tighten mine 3-4 times because it knocked off so much rust) And let it dry so it doesnt attract sand.

so, on a brand new outta the box chain, before it even goes on the bike, what do you people recommend. i currently have chain wax.
should i hang it and spray, and let it dry....
or should i just stick it on doing nothing.
its a primary drive x-ring chain.

Just stick it on. It is already coated with grease/oil of some type. The inner pins protected by the o rings are peremently lubed. Lube can't get in or out. The only thing you ned to worry about is rust protection and since it is already coated, you won't have to spray it down with chain wax or your favorite chain lube till you ride it once.

Also, it is good to ride the bike for a while to get the chain warmed up then put the wax on it and go for a ride

I use PJ1 Blue (for O-Ring chains). It works awesome. It's doesn't fly off and sand doesn't stick to it. I've seen the mess the wax leaves. The original PJ1 is messy.

My brother works for Maxima, and (of course) he recommends the Chain Wax as well, sand doesn't stick to it, but it will, as does any product, wear off over time, and is a good idea to re-apply for each day of riding you do, especially in the sand. The other good product that they offer is the Chain Guard I believe is the name of it, and (can't hold the details to me but I'll find out for sure) it is supposed to work better as far as lubrication on your chain than the Wax, however you do need to re-apply it as often as every ride. I will ask him tonight which he recommends, but I've been using the Guard on the past few trips. I have an older chain that was on it's last leg, and used that Guard to recondition it, and I have no problems, the chain sits snug on the sprocket, it was just bad enough to hold it up in the air and the chain retaimns it's coil shape instead of hanging straight. The Guard helped out a bunch. Sorry I don't have the exact details in my head, I just run what he gives me.

I don’t use any lube just a little engine oil rubbed on it to keep rust at bay and the o-rings from dry rotting.
I don’t know about other brands but the D.I.D. x-ring has excessive amounts of grease already on it. It needs to be completely cleaned or you will have tons of sand stuck to it.

I warm up the chain first by riding hard and fast, way over my limits, usually around camp, pissing everyone else off. Then, after the chain is white hot, I pee on it. The combination of the hot chain and warm pee causes a "quaderfusic" reaction which penentrates even the most hardened steel components. This deep penetration eventually self-lubricates and relaxes all stress. Ohh, that makes me hot! I need to go stretch my chain!

I use some flourecent green stuff.
Works really well, doesn't attract too much sand and you can see it easily.
I just bring the bike home from Glamis, spray the chain with Castrol Super Clean, wash the whole bike, then re spray the chain with lube before the bike gets put away. That way, it sits, penetrates and is ready to go for the next trip. Same chain for 3 years. Have a gold one sitting there waiting for the sprockets to wear down.

Oh, your supposed to get it white hot???? Man, I've been doing it wrong. I've been freezing mine. No wonder my chain gets shriveled up all the time. I hate when that happens.
Aside from that, I learned the diffrence between Maxima Chain WAX and Chain GUARD. The was is a lube that repels dirt, but isn't the best product to use on your chain. The Chain Guard works alot better to protect your chain because it is a full synthetic lube, however it tends to fling off the chain so you do have to re-apply EVERY ride. The wax you apply every day.

The best I've ever used is Yamaha Performance Chain Lube (PN: ACC-RACEC-HA-IN). It is clear, non-staining, does not attract dirt, and lubes the sprocket contact patch and the chain roller great!
It is a product that Maxima Chain Wax always wanted to be - but Maxima went cheap on its product.
A recent test from Motorcycle Consumer News placed Performance Chain Lube a very close second to the PJ product. Motorcycle Consumer News does not accept advertising, so I'm inclined to trust what they say.
We run this product on our dedicated Baja Race bike and both sprocket and chain wear is beyond expectations.

Wow, Awesome this could save me alot of money in chain lube. What do I need to drink for the pee to make the "quaderfusic" reaction??

A high quality dark ale, like Newcastle or Stone's Arrogant Bastard.

According to the instruction manual, you can generally drink any alcoholic beverage prior to the peeing portion of the chain lube procedure. However, there is a warning about drinking "purple hooters." This particular drink may nullify the quaderfusic reaction and cause the reaction to become dis-illisionated. God forbid, but if that were to happen at high speed, you could get "ejaculated" from the quad. That's why you should always were protection!

i dont know if this would fall in this topic but...
my chain has rust on the links... this is my first quad with a chain on it... but ive been cleaning it with kerosene(as the manual describes) and then lubricating it with "special o-ring chain lubricant" (PJ1 stuff that is in a can) i dont know what im doing wrong... i ride in grass mud and dirt...

.....I am gonna catch hell for this. But, I don't use ANYTHING on my quads. Yup, I have been quading for about 4 years now after riding/racing two wheelers for 20 years. I still race MX. But, the 5 months outta the year I use my quads (winter only) I only go to Glamis and Pismo. I douse my chain in wd40 after Pismo but that's it. No funny wear on either the chain or the sprockets themselves.
.....I have a piped and jetted KFX 400 and my wife has an EX 400. I have never changed the chains or sprockets on either. One's 2 years old and one's 3. So far they look brand new. I am HARD on mine too. I ride it like a dirtbike on a track. I inspect them all the time. OK fire away!
I suspect I will never either.
