Just want to get the facts, if available, and opinion on the plastic spacers in between the intake & head, and inake & carb. Some head to carb inserts even have a large wing on them. I understand these are to insulate the intake and carb from motor heat as much as possible and they do increase the intake runner length about a 1/2", but has anyone played with them and noticed any real world difference in removing them?

I know many do and I have too. And I have not noticed anything of signifigance with or without.

Though removing them does help with carb clearance issues when doing motorswaps. Which is probably why most of them are removed. icon_wink.gif

I tend to think there was a reason for them when Honda designed them. Was it performance or ease of operation that was the driver?

My stock 70 intake gets just as hot as the head, my Lifan 125 has the spacer/heat shield and it allows the intake to get cold! Although I am in the process of notching the tank so the Mikuni TM24 will clear. We'll see if it was worth keeping at the dumont reggata races in Feb.!
