evening all, hope you all had a great day. Just got back from the Padre game, they beat the Marlins 3-2, it was a good time and couldnt beat it with free tix at field level.
now if I can just decide if I should go to Colorado or not in a couple weeks for the Pikes Peak hillclimb.

Jun 11 2006, 03:27 PM
it was not tooo bad, only 9.5 hrs.....so are you packed and ready for the Peak
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 03:35 PM
nope, I am demo'ing our deck and gazebo in the front yard today, got the roof and walls down, taking a break before I start on the floor.
Still undecided about the Peak, will talk to the crew tomorrow and see if it is worth going, and how much of the race I will actually be able to see
YFZ4KT
Jun 11 2006, 03:50 PM
went to a Home show today, lots of gazebo's and spas to look at...could spend a lot of $$$$$$$ there
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 04:01 PM
I hear that, I am gonna build our gazebo is stages, first a huge deck probably end up around 24' X 40' then the spa on that, then build the walls and roof after we figure out where we want everything
YFZ4KT
Jun 11 2006, 04:02 PM
make sure you run the elect and plumb as needed....also figure out if you need gas out to the deck anywhere..
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 04:06 PM
its funny, the elec that was ran out there before was only 3" underground, by code it is suppossed to be a minimum of 18". I am gonna end up probably running a 50A circuit for the spa, then 2 more 15A circuits, one for outlets and anther for lights. No gas lines needed.
Undecided on water, no options for drainage, so probably wont go that route.
YFZ4KT
Jun 11 2006, 08:13 PM
well it looks like you got it covered, now you just need to giterdun
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 08:19 PM
got a good start today, the dump trailer is full, so by tomorrow mid morning I will be back home with an empty trailer getting the rest out, should have pics up by tomorrow night.
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 08:29 PM
here is an old pic of the gazebo taken last spring, but you can see it wasnt the nicest looking thing, but not all that bad, the new one will be 3-4 times its size, and the deck part should hopefully be done by mid to late July.
YFZ4KT
Jun 11 2006, 08:49 PM
I can see a lot of treated wood in your future
Screamin Ian
Jun 11 2006, 08:55 PM
treated wood? as in termite repellant? I was actually suprised, the gazebo was all redwood, and had ZERO termite damage to it. It had been there for quite some time.
The floor of the new one is gonna be that sythentic stuff, will use pressure treated in the footings (if I use posts, may just use concrete supports) then all the floor joists will be pressure treated, most likely 2X8's on 16" centers so it will hold the extra weight of the spa.

Jun 11 2006, 08:58 PM
pressure treated, but sounds like you got a handle on it...take a lot of pics

I wish I could go play in the dunes, but I promised Robin the deck and spa would be in by our birthday BBQ, since that isnt gonna happen, and she is insisting that I go to Colorado for the pikes peak challenge, I gotta get something done on it. I was cutting the fields until 9 tonight to try and get ahead a bit.

That is sooo fricking cool. Congrats.
Erica and I went and got another cabinet quote for the kitchen
It wasnt bad untill she said it will usually run 3-5k for installation. Holy chit that was damn near my entire appliance budget. Well we will keep shopping for this one.
Aaron
Screamin Ian
Jun 15 2006, 10:01 PM
was it around $1K a cabinet plus install?, depending on how big your kitchen is, it normally takes 5-8 days to lay out and install, then all the finish trim and adjust on the last day.
For nicer cabs, hidden hinges, dovetail drawers, solid harwood face, plywood boxes, you could easily spend $20K-$25K in cabs alone. Then counter, faucets, lighting, floor, aint no thing to drop over $40K in a kitchen. I think the most expensive one we did, that was just a kitchen, no wall moves or anything special was right around $85K and $55K of that was cabs. and the kitchen wasnt that big either.

Our kitchen is a corridor style kitchen and we arent doing anything all that amazing. We went to Lowe's for the first quote and we will probably call a couple of smaller places to see what they can do.

you mean galley style? bank of cabs on the right then another on the left, nothing between? Those are nice and easy, dont have to worry about corner cabs and walls not being square, etc. About how many cabs? 12 or so uppers and around 10 lowers? We could bang that out in a couple days and save you some serious $$$
My day wasnt bad, dogs to groomers, picked out a stereo system for the truck, picked up some furniture, drove all over SD county. then went to dinner with wifey, just got back about 1/2 hour ago.
now I am toying with the idea of getting up at the butt crack of before dawn and going to Glamis for 1/2 a day, decisions....decisions.
