OK, I keep on waiting for the ASA to stage some massive media event to get us sand junkies some good publicity. So far, no good.
I've been thinking about this for a long time, you guys tell me what you think.
I think we should organize "the biggest sand train ever". Get about 100 people to go campsite to campsite all day one Saturday passing out flyers for everyone at Glamis to meet out in the flats just west of the Glamis Beach Store, form a line behind whatever lead vehicle we choose, and do a nice slow, cruiser train on the sand hwy and then out to Gecko. Give the local, sandiego, and LA news a heads-up so we get coverage.
This paints just the sort of picture we want the public to see. Lots of people cooperating together as a large, fun, safe, group.
Push the right attitude on the flyers so when people get interviewed they've got the right idea's in there head. "We want to protect the ecology of the Algones Dunes. We want to keep Glamis a safe, fun place for family recreation. We are the world, we are the children....."
Not only would this be good for our sport, it'd be more fun than a barrel full of m0nkeys! AND the flyer can push ASA membership and donations and watchfullness over the ASA to make sure they hire good lawyers, good biologist for studying the PMV to show that our ATV's help it spread, and GET US BACK OUR DUNES!!!!!

THIS HAS TO THE BEST THOUGHT I'VE HEARD IN A WHILE! I'M ALL FOR IT!
IT WILL DEFINATLY BE BIG!
HAVING IT ALONG SAND HIGHWAY WILL BE THE BEST PLACE FOR MEDIA COVERAGE!
IT WILL BE KINDA LIKE THE DUNERS FLEXING THEIR MUSCLES! THET WILL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO! WITH ANY LUCK WE COULD EVEN GET SOME BIG TIME SPONCERS! OH MY GOD! YOU'VE GOT MY WHEELS TURNIN'
I KNEW THERE WAS SOMTHIN' ABOUT YOU CRUSTY!

baby steps folks!!!
How about we have the train from the Glamis Flats camp to Comp or Olds or the Drags for the cleanup.. See what happens...
This is a great idea, and it could work WELL. You could gather people as you go through the camps... there is power in numbers...

Not to seem like a smart ass know it all but having said that, let me say this. I've been in broadcasting for nearly seven years. I started in creative advertising. All though it would be an awesome site (and yes my big white Baja would be there) BUT handing out flyers to people at Glamis would be like preaching to the choir. IF a TV news show does a piece on it will be 3 minutes tops near the last, if not THE last story. No matter how they "plug it" (tease the story to keep the viewers tuned in to see the story) the only people who will give a damn are the people already involved. Refer back to the preaching to the choir phrase.
Another sad, but believe it or not, fact is the first thing a news editor wants is a comment (equal time) from the opposition.
Sorry crust brother but that's a problem I felt I needed to bring up. BUT I try to NEVER bring up a problem without TRYING to help with a suggestion.
There are MANY MANY cable companies that run spots for CHEEP! Lesson one Repetitiveness is the key! How many people know "Sit-n-sleep will beat anyone's advertised prices oryour mattress is freeee"? "Or Silly rabbit Trix are for kids" And we all know where we use to be able to "be all we could be' But now you can only 'be an army of one"
I say go for a "co-op" deal with say an RV company or a sandrail manufacture, sand tire co., or a Honda/Yamaha type company and turn people on to this "sport" and run it run it run it!
"Glamis,Californias other Family amusement park"
you can come back as many times as you want in a year for 1/3 the price of Mickey's place.
No lines to wait in!
clean air and wide open spaces.
Active night life (show a picture of a family at a camp fire)
Home cooked meals (picture of cooking in a camper)
Soar to new hights with your family. ( a four seater with a family on a panoramic view from a tall dune)
Thanks for reading this big OLE' long thing.
Aprox budget for this.
Free camera and rentals available at public access TV stations.
I know of directors that have produced several spots will do it for us.
Rate per spot shown on cable $1,500 for lots of runs.
Actors for spots? Any volunteers?
Just something that came out of my fingers.

Hey Jon,
Can you really do this? How would we get the "On location" shots?
I have a project that will easily raise $1500 for this kind of endevor.
How really
feasable is this?
