Tomfish good choice on those Pioneer 6x9's they're my favorite to use in any situation. I put 4 of them in my old boat, and put 4 in my gramps trailer.

Thats how I was going to do my Sirius radio. But then you don't have a volume control. You can add a chingasmeter (potentiometer) between the radio and the amp and mount it on your dash.

I'm sure you can. You could probably hook a blender to your amp. But as far as them working? I don’t know.

Traditionally there is an XM receiver and the head unit that has the display. Without the display you can't select the channel or know what's playing or adjust volume, balance, fade, treble, or bass.
Eventually there will be radios with receiver and head all in one. In fact they just released a portable battery powered XM radio that also includes time delay play (it's got some memory to store 5hrs of audio). Bottom line, for cars you have to have two units, and if you want big sound you'll need a big amp which makes 3 boxes.
Interesting to note that Terk makes an XM receiver that adapts to mulitiple brands of heads like Pioneer, Clairon, using different patch cables. The Terk is $100, and it's smaller than others. So if you have a Pioneer radio the better and cheaper unit today is from Terk.

There is a new alpine on the market that integrates xm making it much easier to install. If you are into IPod it works with it as well.
Click Herein the process puttin one in my new buggy .. much easier than previous models.

How and what did you make those pannels out of?
demon2332
Dec 10 2004, 12:16 PM
If you are talking to me...
I made them out of thin wood, foam, and vinyl.
I glued 1/8 inch foam to the whole panel, and then used 1/4 foam for the graphics. It was glued to the 1/8 inch foam. Then I streched and glued the vinyl to it. I left enought to rap around the bars and staple to the back side of the panels. I wish I had pics of the process, but I never took any.

Yes you can run xm unit in to an amplifier without a headunit. You will need a volume control and depending on the xm unit you choose a line driver to raise the output of the voltage from the xm unit. We have done a few rails like that in our shop works great. Head unit and sand is no win battle.

Bohica you should talk to Shig, He has done some amazing sound systems for the buggies in our hooooker point group. Several of these buggies have over 90hours into the design and install. If you want your system to look like it was designed to be in your car and not added please take my advise and see Shig.

crnacnac's buggy system still impresses me, first time i heard it i thought it was some truck lifted to the moon with a bed full of subs, went on the other side of camp to see what it was and it was his buggy with just those 2 8's bumpin hard.

This site has lots of different ones. If you are going to go with something like that I would pick the smallest one you could get for weight reasons. Some of those units are big bulky and would be alot of stress on them in a buggy.

Ouch those speaker pods are expensive, I had wanted to put some on my boat by next summer, but I guess Ill go a different route.
StereoGuy
Dec 13 2004, 08:57 AM
Yes they are all very pricey. Infinity has some that aren't too bad and would be ok for a boat. But they would be very bulky for a rail.
StereoGuy
Dec 13 2004, 09:15 AM
For that kind of price we could do custom fiberglass pods that would look better and function better.

Here are some pics of cars that we have done in the past. What do u think? The system in these cars crank, especially the blue one. It has four 6" mids, four tweets, 2 6x9's, one 12" sub, and about 1000 watts. LOUD!!!
