I just got this in the e-mail from PEER...
We should turn the tables and write our OWN letters and let them know what WE think...
quote:
1. Action Alert
WRITE A LETTER TODAY TO PROTECT THE DESERT AND ITS IMPERILED SPECIES!
Please write to the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish & Wildlife
Service,
and California's Senators and let them know you support the PEER,
Center for
Biological Diversity, and Sierra Club lawsuit settlements to protect
the
California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA). Let them know you think
this
compromise - closing off part of the CDCA from ORV use - is an
important
first step toward recovery of desert biodiversity and the interim
conservation measures BLM agreed to should be made permanent and
expanded
upon.
For more info and addresses to send the letter please visit:
http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/swcbd/g...dca/letter.html
Next is the most amazing thing.. I don't even know how to respond.
quote:
March 15, 2001 - "UNCLEAR ON THE CONCEPT"
Arizona Historic Officer Defaces Historic Site
Phoenix...Arizona State Parks Assistant Director Renee Bahl, who oversees Arizona's State Historic Preservation Office, carved her name into a 100-year old adobe wall at the historic San Rafael Ranch in Santa Cruz County when State Parks purchased the property in 1999.
The matter was reported to State Director Ken Travous who directed that no outside disclosure of the incident be made. Contrary to his instructions, a photo of her handiwork (attached) was sent yesterday to every member of the state legislature by a State parks employee.
Bahl, who has held her position since 1993, is the person responsible for administering historic
preservation grants and otherwise protecting the historic and prehistoric heritage of the state. Arizona State Parks paid $8.6 million for the San Rafael Ranch.
"Talk about unclear on the concept; this fiasco is compounded by the failure of state officials to do anything about it," commented Jeff Ruch, Executive Director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) an employee organization that has provided legal defense to Arizona State Parks employees. "No wonder civil servants need strong whistleblower laws."

You know its all ****. I'm not for defacing things in nature. I hate to see things carved up with Vato gang names and such. BUT HEY, HELLO, WE'RE NOT DOING THAT SH/T OUT IN THE DUNES.
Besides in 500 to 1000 yrs they will be considered hyroglyphs and treasures of the past century.
CARVING THRU THE DUNES DOES NOT LEAVE A LASTING SCAR.
What every happend to the days (the great dust bowl) when sand dunes and all desert were considered usless wasteland. OF which southern Calfornia is ALL. Only when we truck in water via canals that have killed other areas do we make it plentiful.
What about all the dunes lost in Manhattan beach, Redondo, Playa Vista, Bolsa Chica, Huntington, And all the way up the coast. There wasnt any problem there destroying the land but we still have our dunes no matter how many times we use it. This is an issue where people just dont want us there and for unjust reasons.
They want the dunes to recover and have plants and trees. What for its all part of the cycle of life. THe Nile was once a fertile valley but NATURE saw fit to turn it into the desert and so is the natural way. To try to make the rain shadow side of a hill green is a stupid F'in thing. Its not our fault thats the way it was. We're not like florida that F'dup the wetlands by draining them.
I wish there was a political way to make them BITE MY A$$ - those Greenie, MIT, birkenstock wear-in, Hippie, pot smoking, dreadlock, purple tshirt, wining, jobless, non taxpaying, trepidating, sh/t for nothing should straighten up an become part of the society at large.
Stopping over damaging the earth has to do with overpopulation and demand. FUN doesnt have to end this for everyone.

I saw a report on the fox 6 news about the battle goin on in the dunes. They said that there has never been a study to show that the milkweed's (or whatever it is called) population has decreased since the 1940's. So why do they keep saying to protect the desert before it's to late. And how come I've never seen a seirra club sponsored desert clean up. All these people can do is b!tch and hire attorney's. I think that they are just whining for the sake of whining or because they are jealous of the fun we all have.

Maybe we should extend an invitation to the Sierra Club for them to show up at a clean up. Then when they DON'T show up we can show people just how hypocritcal they really are!

Well said good idea for both. I've never ever seen any one from any club beside ours out cleaning up the dunes.
Bet they'd think it was the first clean-up thats ever been there and that they were the heros. And get major gov support for their effort. ASA should forward a list of all the cleanups and the personal efforts to keep the land clean and free from debris. So we get the recognition.

I think this is a great idea Jon, the only problem is that kind of program takes TONS of money. How ya gonna get the folks out there? What folks do you TAKE out there? The only people who get thrown in jail at Glamis is the DUI's and the druggies. The rest of 'em go home with thier ticket. How ya gonna get them to come out for a day of community service?
Wait... A flash of brilliance!!!
Hold
amnesty clean ups4 a year. If you have a fine for littering or no flag or no helmet ect. then you can bring your ticket to Glamis during
amnesty clean up day and get your ticket written off by helping to clean up! It would have to be volintairy to work.
Someone run with it!

I think the court depends on the offense. Criminal offenses would be the Imperial County seat... El Centro? BLM infractions would probably go to federal court?
I bet LEO on Online.org would know.
Maybe I'll hop over there today and ask!
