Full Version: Accident aftermaths.......

There were many accidents in the dunes this year, I am just wondering what some of the outcomes were. For instance, the guy that crashed is buggy into another buggie on olds(the wheelie guy that was drunk?)? Is he still in jail? The guy that jumped his motorcycle into the side of a pickup at the bottom of olds, how are the passengers in the truck? The jeep that rolled in a dune, how is the survivor? These boards always talk about these accidents when they happen and then we hear nothing about it after a couple weeks. Just thought it can help all if we knew some of the outcomes.

Nice point, I would rather see some real statistical reports on the arrests, accidents, fuel used, visitor/usage counts, local economy growth, PMV counts, etc...

Havent seen anything from the ASA but I'm sure the info is out there. Would like to see more....

I believe that the BLM has a place where you can get the info on arrest and accidents in Glamis on their website. We did lose alot of people this year. Our prayers and well wishes to all who had an incident in the desert this year. Hopefully we will learn from those past mistakes, and do what we can to reduce those numbers next season!!!

A friend of mine was in an accident Thanksgiving 1999. He was in a Suspensions unlimited rail and was hit head on by a drunk in a Baja bug. My friend had no serious injuries except fear, he had insurance on the rail and ended up selling what was left of it (engine) and collecting the insurance $ after this accident, I will always have insurance after seeing how much he was reimbursed! He built a trophy truck and very seldom goes to Glamis now, he was a once a week visitor for years, said he does not want another experience like that again. The 2 guys in the Baja Bug were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the car and transported to the hospital with life threating injuries, last I heard they were alive.

That's a scary thing out there. My fiancee and I go out on a weekend that nothing is happening. He's already had his collarbone broken out there. We don't go out on the holidays any more. I was told several years ago that you have to experience Glamis once on Thanksgiving. I have, and once was enuf for me! I've been a hard park rider for about 5 years now and would like to get to know sand, but I'm a beginner and gotta move slow. I like to ride the little stuff; not a bonzai rider. Have been up Comp, Olds, and Brawley Slide on my warrior; that's enuf for me! Sand can be fun as long as you don't have someone breathin down your neck when you are riding....
Motoholics
Ever notice how every time an accident is talked about it is always "...when that drunk guy....". Then if you read the posts about the alocohol ban in the 'whine and cheese' forum it is scary how many people say "I can do what I want, drink were I want". That is just the same attitude that the guy who ends up in jail with man slaughter charges had before he went out in to the dunes. WAKE UP! Sure you have a right to drink, but everyone else has a right to live. You have to be a complete idiot or just uninformed if you think that "just a couple of beers" is OK. Do you guys even know what alocohol does to you? It is some serious sh*t. DON'T take it too lightly. I don't want to hear about anymore accidents, or their out comes. I, as do many others, just want to go to the dunes with out worrying about drunks or having that accident I just read about in the back of my mind. If you think you can handle your liquer then you can't becuase you probably think that you can dune just fine after a couple of afternoon beers. Irresponsable people should not drink.
ms_96_warrior
AMEN! Hey Motoholics.....You got that right!
You gotta keep the booze in camp and drink when you are done riding for the day. I can't understand how people can justify drinking and riding. You might have seen the replies I got after saying as much....

Ms. Warrior....you're just a band wagon rider.

Seems slightly on-topic so I'm going to slip in a plug for a client here. The radio station KYJT here in yuma is hoping to do a live webcast this friday morning of two girls from a local...um..stripclub doing a how does alcohol affect you challenge.

I guess they normally have the two DJ's do it but this sounds like it's worth webcasting user posted image

I just wish they had given us the camera and plan sooner. Still not sure if it will all work right or not yet...oh yeah I should add their address is kyjtfm.com but I'll post again if it's going to happen for sure.

Sorry to disappoint ya grn, but this has always been my belief. Just because I haven't been involved with the BB in the past, I can chime in on any topic. I have been around both heavy and moderate drinkers while out riding. I have also been around tokers, who hit their bongs pretty hard before riding. I have had a couple of beers and tried to ride and it doesn't work for me. Just because I can't ride after a couple of beers, doesn't justify drinking and riding. I do not partake in this practice anymore.

We all become impaired in some way after drinking alcohol, some more so than others.... It STILL doesn't make it right.

whats a bong?
Robbie
Cant you drink like one beer per hour and not be legally impaired or something like that? I read that your blood alcohol level would be pretty low, especially if you are a pretty big guy.

Yeah, what's a bong?
MikiMoto
Ms. Thang.....I guess you know by now that your little whiny chimes irritate me. Most of your posts consist of "I agree w/ so & so" & "I have been blah blah for this many years & I have been blah blah blah & I & I & I." Yes you have every right to chime in & drop your unimportant opinion. Of course we all know right from wrong & use our own brain to decide if we are gonna comply or not. WE KNOW THE FACTS. BTW....people can get DUI or have a measurable BAL the next morning. They don't have to wake up & crack a cold one before riding to be impaired. You should know this....didn't you say something about "I am an ex-cop"? If you chime in on other topics maybe you wouldn't get such negative feed back.
The Pastor
I would like to add that contrairy to what some people say.. there are NO unimportant opinions!
Debating someones STYLE doesn't do a thing for me.
While everyone has the right to say whats on their mind... the idea is to ENCOURAGE more posts not DISCOURAGE.

I would like to ENCOURAGE everyone to keep an open mind and not to make things personal. Things will be much more enjoyable then!

After reading the many posts on this subject, I couldn't help but think about the 12 step program from AA. The theme here seems to be "I can handle alcohol and it never impairs my judgement or my ability to drive/ride in the dunes." Many people have commented on the dangers associated with duning and that everyone should take that into consideration. Others have said because there are dangers, people should accept the additional danger of adding alcohol. What I ask is, if we freely admit to the dangers of duning, why would we want to increase that danger by adding alcohol to this equation? If there are those among us that feel the need to drink or take drugs in order for them to enjoy the Glamis experience, I have added the 12 steps that Alcoholics Anonymous has used for many years. Each person needs to decide what is right for them, I support that 100%. However, when you add the close proximity of so many other people such as at Glamis, we need to step back and decide what is best for us AND the people around us that we could effect by our behavior. My 2 1/2 cents worth.

The 12 Suggested Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol--that our lives had become unmanageable.

Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Well VOR you shut me up. I know.....the best thing to do when you don't agree or whatever is just to ignore & let it pass. Nuff said there. I tried to e-mail user sub pics to you but it sends em back & says your mailbox is full. Sup with that? I'll try again pastor.

Sorry to Ms. Warrior - we have one thing in common for sure - GLAMIS

This is fairly blatant... complety personal and totally non constructive nor does it offer any new opinions or expand on any old ones. In short it is a personal attack on someone because you don't agree with her.
I NEVER wanted to "Shut you up" I was merely trying to steer the conversation away from personal attacks and towards constructive, informitive, intellegent debate. I am sorry you saw it as an attack on you. I would have thought you knew me better than that. I was trying to be nice.

Amen Big Al....Been involved w/AA for years... Thank Vor and GRN, Well... I am sorry that this topic upset you so much. It's an opinion shared by many. The attacks were not directed at you; just at the whole topic in general. People WILL do what they WANT to do. Too bad they can't see the bad reputation that is being developed for ALL of us.
ms_96_warrior
And GRN, I really have been involved with AA; even been to meetings. My mom is a recovering alcoholic and going on her 33rd year of sobriety, so I'm not just agreeing with Big Al.

Sorry you guys don't know me; I have done many things in my 41 years; some good and some not so good. And, I can carry on a pretty good sports conversation; football, baseball, tennis, hockey, basketball, whatever. I really am a nice person. I can even change my own oil!

Hey Zim, you got that right..you got that right.

And Robbie, sorry....not the right "Bong".
American Heritage College Dictionary says:
A water pipe that consists of a bottle or vertical tube partially filled with liquid and a smaller tube ending in a bowl.
Robbie

I tried to post that definition yesterday but I was sidetracked by some donuts.

After reading all these post, I need a drink! Someone pass me a bottle, I need a pull! Stupid is as stupid does! If you drink and ride YOU'RE STUPID!
fasthijumper
hey zimzamzamboie, you better get your facts straight, my two close friends were in that baja you speak of, DRUNK!, the driver Eric doesnt even drink user posted image, I wish I would of read this post sooner, they were not thrown from the car, but hurt pretty bad, they were camped w/us and never came back from a ride, I`m not sayin who was at fault, but it was just a eff up on both parts, my bro Dave was drinkin not Eric! I`m sure you think it was not your boys fault, I think the same!
zim1and2
FJH, I checked with my friend who was in the accident and he said the driver was drunk. I didn't see the accident until the paramedics arrived and they said the passanger was thrown out and the driver ate the windshield. Might be a different accident, it was Thanksgiving 99 in the AM. Whatever the case, it was a horrible accident that almost killed some people. If it is the same accident, I apoligize for any ill feelings, I am getting all the first hand info from my friend who was in the rail so who knows. If it is the same, how are those people doing?
Cookie
You guys are killing me......I go away on vacation for two weeks and this topic is still going. After reading everyone's posts, I almost lit up that bong. But then of course I might be lumped into some non- conformist group.

The point of this thread was to educate people about the aftermaths of serious accidents. How people survive or don't.

I miss my sandbox!!!!!
