Well, if you want an honest answer...most of us who spent the $'s probably "care". I knew going in that it was gonna get some wear and tear, so I don't "freak" out about it. But I do try to at least start out a trip with it clean...that lasts til about 5 minutes after it rolls out of the trailer..

I guess it a matter if you take pride in your car and want it to look nice or you just want a bucket of bolts. You can have a nice clean car without a trick paint job,
but the paint job just puts the finishing touch on it.

I am going to care too much about my paint, I have came up with my graphics theme about 3 years ago, and now it is finally a reality, I got the 3M protective vinyl over all the panels, and leading edges of both the powder coat and chrome, hopefully that will help protect it, and a coat of wax before every trip.

Why paint you car, your house? I spent a few bucks on my paint job and I want to keep it looking nice, but not at the expense of having fun. Just like Beach, I show up with it clean and other than maybe using the California duster in the morning that's it. I don't get stressed out when people lean against it or when the kids are climbing in and out either. Besides, without paint, all the cars would look the same. How boring would that be. I really enjoy looking at all the interesting paint jobs.

I also feel that you have all the money invested in a nice car...give it a little bling with a Phat paint job...I am very happy with mine....Brinks did mine...I am pretty picky...had panels and wing there this summer for some touch up job and added paint to my intercooler.

I had a painter design sketch some graphics for me when my car was being built. I could not risk losing any dune time so I put it off until the next off season. I'm glad I did, I realized how quickly my thousands of dollars would have faded after a couple of dune trips. I'll be sticking with just powdercoat.....

I like nice paint jobs but I spend enough time polishing on the Harley. When I got into this sport I wanted a nice clean easy to keep up look so I just went with one color powder coat. I still wipe it down each morning and give it a good cleaning after each trip but that s good for me.

Best paint decision I made was on my first car.
I chose a color that I could get an EXACT MATCH in at most auto parts stores (GM color coded).
Scratched, dinged, blasted. We tore the snot out of that thing. and every trip it looked great rolling back on the trailer thanks to a $8.99 can of exact touch up paint.
Not everone's style (no bling whatsoever), but it looked respectable and we never gave a second thought to holding back 'because it might damage the paint job'

I'm going with HAMMERITE/DECAL/3M FILM plan and here's why:
1. goes on bare metal
2. no primer needed)
3. has crush glass for durability
4. easy to touch up (after grinding or damage)
5. available at any Home Depot
6. Cool "hammered" finish.
7. Can be applied THICK with a roller and will look like powdercoat.
8. Relatively CHEAP!!!
9. Stick to steel like epoxy.
That's for the frame.
For the panels, scotch-bright for the "Exile Cycles" look or the "swirl-finish" that's so popular now. The I add a stick on graphic. There are HUNDREDS of these graphics available!
For the finishing touch, I though about applying the 3M invisible film on the panels. It's the stuff they put on the front of cars to make an "invisible bra" It's basically a super-tough plastic film that's removeable!!!
AND the invisible film will protect the panels make them look like they have a clear coat on them!
Waddaya think?
