What an incredibly terrible week it has been.
On Tuesday, the day of the tragedy, I woke up at 6am to see the World Trade Center tower on fire. There were large, dark holes in the side of the tower and smoke and flames were shooting out like something out of the movies. I wasn't completly awake so I don't think it had really sunk in until I saw that second plane. Then I was wide awake. Our world as we knew it was gone. I knew that in that instant.
Then, a bit later, I witnessed the most horrifying site I have ever seen in my life and I know I will never forget it. I saw the first tower collapse. Down, down, falling I knew the tower had collapsed but it took forever to fall. It seemed to be in slow motion. I was totally dumbfounded. All I could think about was all those people inside of that tower. It didn't immediatly occur to me that the tower was full of Firefighters. That fact would become painfully clear a bit later. The second tower fell and my thinking processes failed to work properly. I simply could not comprehend the New York skyline without the Twin Towers.
I have actually been up in one of the towers. I'm not sure which one but I took a vacation one year and got to go to the "Top of the World". It was an incredible momment. The magnatude of those towers just cannot be grasped. They were not big, or huge. Those towers were MASSIVE! They were solid pilars in the middle of New York.
There has already been talk of rebuilding the towers. I heartily agree with this sentiment. I think they should be built with all available speed and two years from now, as America looks upon the "New World Trade Center" I know that we, as a country would take heart in the strength of our country. The strength that is epitomized by the Twin Towers!
God Bless all who perished
God Bless each and every firefighter, police officer and rescue worker
God Bless New York and Washington DC
and
God Bless the people of America
