I'm tryin to fix my cousins quadzilla. It runs for a few seconds and dies, then gas constantly leaks out the overflow. Thinkin it is a problem with the carb. It is a Mukini Carb. Its an 87 LT500r, does anybody have any dieas of what to look for? Any diagrams or servcie manuals for this quad? Any help would be appreciated so we can go to Glamis for soon, Thanks

I would take the carb off and clean/rebuild it. It obviously has some carbination issues. Did this just start? How long since he last rode it?

Sounds like the float is stuck or needs to be adjusted, causing it to flood. Do this. Take the carb off the bike and take off the floatbowl so the float is exposed. Attach the fuel line and turn on the fuel. Fuel should pour out. Then push the float all the way up. It should stop. If it doesn't, then it needs to be adjusted. When the float is hanging free, it should barely be touching the needle valve. In the middle of the float there should be a flap. That is called a trung. play with it in different positions untill the fuel shuts off when you push the float up.
If for some reason this isn't the problem, then take the carb apart and clean everything with some carb cleaner. Carbs seem like they are hard to work on, but after you take them apart they are easier. Try getting a service manual for it, and it will give you all the specs you will need.

I'm pretty sure it's a stuck float also. I wouldn't mess with the float level untill your sure it needs to be adjusted. That is, you clean the carb well and it still has that problem. While your at it, pull out the jets and clean them. If the needle valve got something in it large enough to gunk it up, the pilot or main could be partially gunked also.

Alright guys, thanks for your help. When I took the FLoat bowl off the the plastic ring was not really round, and it looked weird, so I have a question to ask you. I took some pictures.

in the above pic, should the pasltic piece be off to the side?

or in this pic should it be in the hole?

same as pic #3
do you guys know where that plastic piece should be? Thanks

It's probably the needle and seat for the incoming fuel flow. Mine is doing the same thing right now, it's $38.00 from Suzuki to rebuild it. Take the float bowl off, hook the gas line up to the tank and turn the gas on, now push up on the float arm, if the gas don't stop, there's the problem. Have fun, if you hook up a deal on a complete carb rebuild kit let me know, I need one.

That carb looks different than mine, I don't know what to tell you on that one.
You might get some info at www.sudco.com

Ok guys, I have everything back together and I am ready to put it on. But when I took it off, I could not figure out how to get the needle and throttle cable separated. Does anybody here know how I do this, so I can clean it and check it? thanks

You have to pull the cable so the spring collapses. Then there should be a little groove for the needle to slip out of. I would also suggest getting a can of carb cleaner...I forget what it's called...it's a bucket filled with carb cleaner, it has a little tray in it. You just set all the carb parts in it and let it soak. Works real good.

It's just called "Carb Dip" Very caustic stuff. DO NOT PUT ANY PLASTIC PARTS IN THIS STUFF! Metal parts only!!!
