Like I've griped before, I can't believe the trash and junk left around mother G.
When I go surfing,I see those big trash sifter machines at the beach, towed behind a dump truck, and the sifter seperates the trash from the sand and convaires it to the dump truck, leaving clean sand behind. They easily clean a huge area in a short time and very well at that.
Wouldn't this work at Glamis?
Bless the hearts of those of us who go to the cleanups,,,but I think the time for a major league approach is here. Beyond volunteers with trashbags.
The hand cleanups are nobel, but not enough, and our able opponents are already siteing garbage as another reason for a full closeure. And with good examples.

When the parking fee was first initiated, a questionaire was handed out with all season passes asking what you wanted the money to be used for. A sand sieve was one of them. Not sure how many people voted for it but I know the BLM hasn't purchased one.

The ASA tried this approach, even said they would be willing to buy the machine and operate it. Once again, the enviros put a stop to our plan. It seems if the ground will be (or could possibly be) disturbed more than 5 inches deep then an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) needs to be done before such a machine can be used. And to do an EIS on every inch of Glamis where the machine might be used would be almost impossible and cost major money.
How stupid is this? We want to clean the sand and we're not allowed to. Typical.

Come on, our paddles dig that deep and they dont need a study for that!

Something is fishy here is right.
That's because this has never been about saving the desert and has always been about
$$ MONEY $$
I would love to actually follow the money trail back to see just WHO EXACTLY is behind all of this. I'm just afraid that what I'll find is that there is Gold in the ISDRA and that is the real reason it's being closed....
but I'm a paranoid dude with psycotic tendancies!!!!

I was reading somewhere in a post that the ranger station has a rake type of gadget that can be pulled behind a rail or truck I am not sure if it was on this board or some other board my .02

There are two sand rakes that were crated last season:
1) Which was stored at the Ranger station for a period I believe which was made by the R&R Duners club. It is currently being repaired from what I've been told. Jim (Sanduners) can you update us on this?
2) The other was made by KD Cycle in Yuma to help out at the south dunes cleanup. It is stored at their shop on Hwy 95 in Yuma and can be brought out to cleanups with a little advanced notice. If anyone wants to use it drop me an e-mail and I'll try to get it from them for the weekend. You can also try calling directly but I'm not sure what their policy is on loaning it out. They HATE trash in the dunes though and are always looking for an excuse to go riding so chances are if you give them some advance notice they'll meet you out there with it.
I'm sure there are others but those are the two that I'm aware of.

Well isn't the clean up coming up? Maybe we should start thinking ahead about what approach we should take.
