Looking to invest in 5 whip mounts, just need to know which one works the best, and where to buy from. I am tired of f----ing with 5 freakin' whips now. I have seen the ones that are like 25-30 bucks, but times that by 5 and that's around $150.00.
Thanks,

I heard of someone making ones from air hose quick disconnects. You can get a set of those for a few dollars at harbor freight tools. Not exactly sure how they did it but it may be worth looking into.

I have a billet one from Cycle parts west. They are awesome and have them for the thin, or 1/4" whips. They are $19.99. They come in Anodized black, red, blue, and polished. They are worth the money and are not that expensive for the quality you get. Yuou are not gonna find one that will work for more than a trip or two that is under $20.

I made my own out of air hose fittings. $6 for a decent brass connector, 69 cents for male fittings. There's a system online that uses the female end on the whip, but that just seems like it would add too much expense, so I use the female end on the bike and jam the end of a whip into the male fitting. While my buddies are still digging through their tools, I've already got both my whip and my wife's taken care of and I'm cracking a beer...

PSD how exactly did you make it

Okay, it's a bit of a pain to make them my way, but once they're made they're good until they break...
1. Go to any harware store and buy a female air hose connector and a dozen or so males.
2. Bolt the female end onto your grab bar/six pack rack where you'd normally bolt your whip on.
3. Get a bunch of old whips. If they're broken, whittle the tip down to a point. If not, chop the end off and whittle down to a point. This doesn't have to be very precise.
4. Slide the male air fitting onto the end of the whip. Beat it against the ground a few times to get it good and stuck. For good measure, I dab a few drops of super glue into each end of the male fitting.
5. I realized last weekend when I went through both whips and both spares that it's probably a good idea to have a few extra male fittings in your dune toolbox in case you have to make a repair...once you've super glued the whip into a fitting, it's pretty much worthless.

crappy. The RIS mount allows you to stick your whip back in even if it breaks off. I've had to do this twice.

Sounds like it is probably cheaper to just buy a quick release, after a while you go thru enough flags and male fittings you would have bought a nice 20 bucks quick release, not trying to be a pia, just thinking...........................
http://www.albaaction.com/ has several to choose from and I think RIS is one of them. The expensive version of the air hose is
http://www.clickwhip.com/ There is also a guy on Ebay that makes a $10 deal that is pretty good for the money. I don't remeber the site but search whip mount on Ebay. That one is pretty simple and the whip just sticks in...works OK on the kids bikes but I have one of Alba's on mine...

This is the clickwhip. I have two. He sells the entire whip with the fitting. The whip is heavier than standard so unless you have thick whips, I don't think just the hardware would work for you. I know you said cheap but since I had a pic, I threw it up. This design is much stronger than the airline fittings people use. All parts except the ball bearing holder are CNC machined. I haven't broken one yet. The optional bling bling nickle plating adds almost as much horsepower as chrome also.

The stiffy screw on mount works pretty good and it is fairly cheap.

The clickwhip does get bound up a bit with sand. They come off easy enough after you twist the female end a bit to let the sand fall out. The stiffy whip mount gets sand in the threads also but not enough to cause binding.

I wonder if I should just wait 'till my next G trip to pick up some of these bad boys. I was shocked to see the prices at Crazy Kevins were pretty cheap on almost everything. Ya think they got some over there?

If I switch to anything, it'd be the RIS setup that Bansh has...cheap (relatively), simple, easy to recycle a broken whip. How long have you had that thing, Mike?

A buddy of mine had that Cascade and it was constantly jamming up...but he was constantly crashing. RSDC, why two whip holders on one bike?

make sure that the mounting bolt in whatever quick release you buy has a hallow core so the flag pole goes all the way thru. I've seen a lot that don't and when the end begins to fray it won't fit far enough down to get good traction. I have a billt one with a depressable button that works like a dream.

I built four quick release flag holders today for $8.00. I went to Harbor Freight tools and purchased four sets of quick release air hose fittings for $1.99 each. (They are on sale through 1/17.) Each set includes one quick release fitting, one female hose end and three male hose ends. I took the female ends and screwed them into the ends of the flag whip using the existing 1/2 nut as a jam nut. I then used one of the male fittings along wth a 1/2 inch washer to secure the quick release fitting to the flag mount on each quad. The rig seems to be pretty strong. I think it will be fine for my wife and kids quads as they seldom get out of second gear and don't dune hard. We will see how it works on my quad. I hope to get out this weekend(rain permitting) and will post on how well it works.

I just found a couple more whips that I had converted laying around in the garage at my rental, so I'm good to go this weekend and won't get a chance to experiment with one of the other styles...my uncle and I were talking about it, and he thinks he could grab some plumbing parts from work to make our own knockoff of the RIS...I'll update when we see how that goes.
