When I bought my wifes 05 Z400 I bought a set of the laser lights for it, they are accually a Suzuki part but I think Laser makes them. Well they dont fit the new style head stem plate since they went to the anti vibe mounts on the 05's. So I'm being offered a set a of Trail Tech lights to replace the ones I bought, I really like the mounting plate on the Trail Tech lights but I have to relocate the key and all the indicator lights. Whats your thoughts on these lights. Thanks

Are you talking about Lazer Star lights? I don't know that I'd take a straight trade for Trail Techs...Lazer Star lights are about equal in terms of quality, but they're waaaay more expensive. If this is the case I'd be asking for a partial refund or something else to that effect.

I run the bar mounted Trail tech HID's on my 03 Z and love em. I actuall plan on putting two more HID's on the frame for more light.

Are you running the whole upper bar mount where you had to change every thing over?

I've got 4 Trail Tech's on my YFZ and I love them. I've never ran any Lazer Star stuff though. I think you'll be happy with them. They seem to be the same. I think it is brand preference, just like Yamaha and Honda.

Not gonna work on the Z without a bigger stator.
I have Trail Techs on my Z and LaserStars on sons quad. Really can't tell much difference in the lights themselves. The trail tech clamp would be hard to add more lights on it, but the Laser one I could add about 4 or 5 more on it.

If I add two more lights they will go down on the frame like Sandfanatic's. and I know that if I run four I will need to rewind the stator but if I run just two for now the stock stator should be fine right?

Yea mine work great. I am thinking of doing the PIAA replacement bulbs instead of the 2 extra on the frame. Then get a
Ricky Stator one.

And hope your battery lasts. You will be pulling more power from the battery than you are charging. You will also have lights go bright and lighter.

This is the one argument that Lazer Star has going for them...they are indeed duner-owned and operated. I believe their products may also be 100% American, where the Trail Techs are Taiwanese or something...

Trail Tech is at the Dunes just as much as Lazer. They have been in Glamis For Thanksgiving the last two years. They spend a ton of time at the Oregon dunes testing there stuff. I dont know about them being a member of ORBA or ASA but with the money you save getting the Trail Techs you could donate some $$$!. What kind of support does Lazer give to the Dunes?
PimpShackDave
Jan 5 2005, 03:39 PM
DSRide - I wasn't aware of that. I have, however, had the owner of Lazer Star come online and lecture me about how they're duners and the Trail Tech folks aren't and how they're American and the others arent...yadda yadda blah blah, don't ask why I was parroting it back out anyways, I still think the TT setup gets the job done beautifully for $70-80 cheaper.

Trail Tech is an American company. They source some of there parts from overseas. Do you think the bulbs that Lazer uses are made in the USA. Does it really matter when you put the parts on a Quad made overseas

Well let me set some things straight. I can speak for Lazer Star cause I am its VP and my sister and dad work with me. I can only speak the facts I know about TT.
We are 32 year Glamis duners. I am an ASA Board member and have been Endowment Chairman for 4 years; I took over right after the Funco giveaway and have run (with the committee) all the raffles since. I put in about 7-10 work hrs a week towards efforts so save our dunes. TT shows up every Thanksgiving to sell. They may be duners in Oregon but this is GlamisDunes.com right?
My dad designed the Bullet and Hemi (that TT copied, adding grooves on the sides) back in 1993. Our Lazer Star products are machined in various small shops in So Cal and assembled in our place in Anaheim. We generally use Alcoa or Kaiser, domestic aluminum to machine our parts out of, our lenses are made in Ventura and our hardware in San Fernando Valley or around the corner from us in Anaheim. Our lamps are either German or Japenese (cause they either make them special or are the best quality). TT used to use the very same lamps but have since stopped and have opted to rubber isolate their lights. The TT lights are cast (possibly forged) then machined to give them a billet appearance. They however are not billet. It says right on their package they are made in Taiwan.
Right before the SSSS we redesigned our ATV clamp line and lowered the price nearly $40 a set. The price for a YFZ kit for instance is now $221 a set. That is about the best we can do and keep the stuff domestic. All LS handlebar clamps are now unique in that the lights mount sidways on the clamp vs. upright. If things get more cut throad we might be forced to become the oursourcing poster child and send our stuff to China to compete. It seems to be the American way these days and it's sad. For those of you who have bought thanks, I really appriciate it. For those that go TT, well, maybe next time...
Update on whats coming: Our prototype Orion (4.5" dia) HID's are on the Sand Limo built for Speedtrap TV. They are 21 watt and will be available by March in both 21w and 35w spot or flood. ALL electronics are internal. I hope to have these 21 and 35 w lamps with the electronics crammed into a 2 1/4 diameter by the next SSSS. I'll be posting a pic of the Orion on the buggy tech board soon. I'll have a full line of LED under bike/car lights out by late spring, several are also suitable for taillights as well. They are flexable so you can mount them on a curved surface. They'll also be available in a billet casing similar to what i've offered in the past but with many more lengths and color options. Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and White are all coming.

You have a big long response but not one time does it say why LS is worth the extra money. The days of Made in the USA are pretty much over. I hate to tell you but my YFZ450 was not made in the US either. I like my Trail Tech lights and have never had a problem with them. The TT Torch lights I have on my YFZ stayed on the quad for the Baja 500 and 1000 this year and were on another quad for last years Baja 1000 along with the big HIDs.

DS, my apologies. My passion runs deep.
Your right about Made in the USA but it is not really the big issue, it's integrity. I've said this on here before. It's about inventing, producing and marketing a unique product for the past 11 years and have it ripped off. I created the market they have taken advantage of. TT only started advertising a few months ago. I have been advertising for 11 years. I'm now forced to make changes to differentiate my products, from my products! THAT is why I'm so passionate...

Competition only makes it better for the consumer. Someone always has to be the first. If you have a great product for a fair price and follow it up with great customer service who cares what the other guys are doing.
