They both pretty much equal for duning but the YFZ is better for MX out of the box. Both great bike, you can't go wrong with either. If you do a search on this topic you will find a ton of opinions.

this has got to be the 15th topic like this. i know im guilty of starting one too.
its all a matter of opinion and taste. ride the bike before you buy it. find a buddy of yours, or somone thats willing to let you use theyr YFZ ride it, see what you think. then find somone with a 450R, and do the same. which ever one you like best, buy. bout as simple as simple can get.

Do you like Ford or Chevy. That is what it comes down to. They both have some +/- sides to them. Like stated above, try and ride them both before you purchase and see what one fits you best.

Honestly though.. Both quads are great. If the honda would of been out when I bought my yfz, I would of gotten it. But the yfz's are just a little bit faster, and you can get a lot of free power out of them.

Yea the yfz seems a bit faster than the Honda. Personally I went which one fit the best when I sat/rode on them, the yfz seemed low and I felt like I was sitting on top of it. The honda, which I bought, had a better feel and like I fit in it. Also been riding honda's for bout 25 years...no reason to change now. Like desertbound said both quads are great and you can't go wrong with either one.

if I wanted to spend the whole day racing up the hill in a straight line, I would have put more consideration to the YFZ, when the YFZs show up at the hill I take off my helmet like I've been there awhile

but I like to run the dunes and an occasional trail. I spend alot of time sitting on my butt 'cuz I'm kinda fat and lazy

and the TRX was just more comfy one the showroom floor. I still love it, no regrets. But I have yet to ride a YFZ. Don't let the kick start scare you, I start it sitting down.

choose which is more comfortable to you. On the honda you have to do a cam change to keep up with the yamaha, but you will still have a little bit less money invested in the honda. I bought the honda and I do not regret it, the suspension is great. I did the hrc kit and wb e2 slip on.
when racing yfz's up the hill, it comes down to rider, ive won some and lost a couple. The hrc cam is very mid to top. It hauls but on the top. i am more of a duner though and felt the honda was best for me.
Both are great bikes goodluck!

I did ok, i raced at elsinore msot of the time, didnt liek that track much, it is very poor, i think, compared to the el cajon track i think some ofthe jumps are very bad, but they do have some great jumps, i did alot of repairing and watching at elsinore, i actually placed 7th out of 35 or osmething like that, i only finished 2 1/2 races out of 6, not to bad, i did tie 2 other people for 7th in points,
and then for the 1 race i did it el cajon i got 5th out of 16, i was able to get 2nd off the line in the first moto, my friend levi(tore up racing) beat me off the line on his 14 thousand dollar yfz, he is also very fast, and he got 2nd in that race, i only crashed once at el cajon, over cleared a jump and panicked when i came into the corner way to fast and hit my frotn brakes to hard
o well it wasnt bad, in summer if el cjaon has anoterh series i will race in it,
how well did you do?
Bronc-O-Boy11
Jan 8 2005, 09:26 AM
Didn't do to bad.....7th overall in Spring series, but i missed 4 races and in the Fall series I came in 4th overall. Not to bad considering my YFZ is bone stock and I'm up against Elka shocked, A-armed, rear axled modded quads. The only thing i've changed is the rear tires, went to a Kenda Klaw MX-R 18".
I also had one bad crash this year, the others were minor. It was in Grunthal Manitoba.....Was the 2 day invitaional weekend and my wife, daughter and parents showed up to watch the weekend of racing. Well....it was the 2nd day, 8am and ATV's were up for there practice laps. Off the start there's a 120 degree left hander into a sweeping right then you come up to a triple. The ones with the modded quads were making it the day before and I wasn't trying it cause it was the 1st time I ever raced that track....anyho, In practice I tried it
I topped the upward part of the 3rd, seat bounced, hung on like a dummie, smashed my face into the brake res. denting the lexan on my goggles, bailed then my quad flipped once and was shut down (tether cord) and somehow was in nuetral. As it was rolling and I finished faceplanting in the mud, I jumped up tether in hand, jumped on the quad rolling, slapped the tether in, fired up and was gone like I didn't miss a beat.
My Mom and Wife freaked, Dad was giving me the

and my buddies were

. Ended up with a bent rear subframe and bent the bars. Placed 3rd overall for that weekend and took my 1st trophy home. Was pretty cool.

Not bad, i crashed on a table(one of my crashes), i think it was 50', i kased it with my rear wheels and went over, thats when i first bent my stem, never tried that jump again, pretty big jump, I to went to 18" klaws, and 20" holeshots up front
heres a pic of effinbees77 going off the same jump that i carshed on:

Sweet pic
I've been there a few times on the track in Beausejour, 70 table. Either you let of a bit in fourth or hit it fourth full out and you'll make it. Anything inbetween and you'll case it.
Here's one of me hitting the 50 ish foot mark.
I've done the full 70 feet only a couple times, but little too hairy for me.

fixing to go pick my girl up a 450 and haven't decided on a YFZ or a TRX. I am worried she ain't gonna like the kick start. What would you guys do?
85gmc454
Feb 8 2005, 01:41 AM
my gf can kick my 450r with no problems. she always has her riding boats on when she starts it, so that might be helping her out. i have not had to start it for her once.
Just remember not to hit the gas when kicking it.

this will be her quad, so what made you decide to get the 450r over the YFZ?

Feb 8 2005, 02:06 PM
I had a banshee that was ported and all that fun stuff. I got sick of the $4.80 per gallon for 110, it handled like crap with all the suspension upgrades. So I sold it for 6k. I bought the trx over the yfz do to comfort, and I believe the suspension is better for the sand. The yfz looks like its just as stiff as my 85 chevy 3/4 ton. But basically ergonomics were a big factor for me. I almost got a raptor. My girlfriend has a raptor and wants my TRX450. Its a fun bike, the front end is super light, you can wheelie for days, get big air without bottoming out the suspension, its just an awesome bike, granted it will get worked by a ported banshee, but it can beat banshee's with pipes and intake.
heres my old banshee
TEXWS6
Feb 8 2005, 05:05 PM
sweet banshee, that's mine in the avatar....
i was wanting something heavier on the front end so she won't wheelie it....
i don't wanna buy a 400 of any sort cause i will just end up upgrading motor, suspenion, so i am gonna get her a 450 to start off

If you don't want her to wheelie than get a YFZ450. The YFZ feels like it wants to keep all four wheels on the ground. This was a bummer for me because I like to wheelie out of every corner. Took a couple trips to learn how to wheelie the YFZ like my old KFX.
