Thinking about doing a complete rebuild on my 01 Banshee. It is mostly stock except pipes, reeds, port, and head. I want to strip it down, paint the frame, add some aftermarket a arms and shocks and clean the motor up some and other motor mods.

Just wanting some input from guys that have encountered this type of project before on what i should look for and what not...

thanks,

Kelly

When I do this type of project i take tons of pictures. This may help when your putting it back together. Many times I refer back to them for a minor detail in the way a part is installed etc etc.

Also put all nuts and bolts in small bags and label them.

Let me know if you want Ricky Stator Suspension and TCS shocks.

i believe PSD (pimp shack dave) just rebuilt his shee over last summer. he redid the motor and powdercoated the frame. turned out pretty nice. might want to ask him too.

Mike, i was prolly gonna purchase the suspension and fullbore plastics from ya....how do those ricky stator a arms compare to the quicksand?

Mike330R
I've never seen or used the quicksand so I can't help ya much there.

Yami's right, I did a teardown on my '01 'shee over the summer. Mike has the right idea, take pics at every stage, and get a ton of ziploc baggies and a Sharpie and label EVERYTHING. I did a powdercoat on the frame, top and bottom end rebuild, added a 5.6 gallon gas tank, and spit shined everything that stayed. I woulda done the suspension at the same time, but the bottom end I wasn't expecting to be as sloppy as it was ended up sucking away most of that money...all things said and done, it took me and RCD Ryan 26 days from start to finish (with 28 days between night rides). It could have been done sooner if it weren't for delays with the people that were supposed to be ordering parts, honing cylinders, and dyno tuning.

Don't paint the frame, powdercoat.

yes, baggies are a MUST, i used post it notes inside the bags with a little picture diagram and an arrow pointing to where they go on the bike on top of the actual name of the piece. and if you are or already have removed the e-brake and dont plan ono puting it back on. you might want to grind off the little guides before you have it PC'd. also the stock box mounts if you are going to run the clamp on k&n/'s.

sounds like a party to me. extra parts are a must. beer.gif

25cheers.gif I had a rebuild thread on here from when I did mine in August, but it wasn't too good...I never updated with the important info, unfortunately.

i am in west texas, so there are not many powder coaters out here, the ones are here do oil field equipment, so they don't have any "pretty" colors....i was thinking of doing the burnt orange that chevy did with the new model camaro SS's with some black full bore's....

thanks for all the input...

Man when I was living in West Texas everyone was into drag racers and hot rods. Texas should have a few powdercoaters hit some of the speed shops they can point you in the right direction
TANK
why dont you ship it?
TEXWS6
i'll prolly just have my body man lay some paint on pretty thick.....he has his painted candy apple red with a flake, and it has yet to peel or chip....
