Looking for a misslie kit, thinking of turnin the R into a 2 wheeler.
TunaTodd
I am really into the three wheelers and have seen missle kits out there but expect to pay in the $800 range for an original. I have been told that a missle kit'd R is not as fun as you would think.....kind of a pain in the ass to ride.

That's a bummer to hear- I've been thinking I'd like to find one as a novelty toy for a long-term keeper. Thought it'd be a ball.

There was a VERY nice one on ebay about 6mos or so ago in Nor Cal. He wanted $2300 for it minimum bid, and nobody touched it. icon_confused.gif
TunaTodd
$2300!!!!!! Holy crap! You could build one for less if you can weld. I know they use a second sprocket on the pivot because the wider wheel centered in the frame/swingarm won't allow the sprocketsw to line up....that would be the hard part.

Probably better off just buying a 200 FatCat...
az350x
Well, $2300 was for the whole bike already done. And it was in SWEEEET condition. Around here (AZ), nice 250R waterpumpers bring $2k-2500, so I didn't think it was such a bad buy.

I rode a Missle 250R for two seasons in the dunes and it went very well. I was thinking on putting a CR500 motor in when a guy made me an offer on it I couldn't refuse.

A wide wheeled dirt bike works very well in the dunes.

Its a blast, and with all the mods I have made its even better. It has travel now.....I am doing a work in progress. I was thinking of doing project thread if any one is interested.

I still build the Missile Kits and have one that fits a 350X its not quite as fast as the 250r but handles better in my opinion. I can see I need to do more in the way of advertising. Contact me at Missile Engineering 515-274-8631 ask for John I can help you

Hey John,
I talked to you Wednesday about the missile I have had since the 80s. It was great talking to you about the kits, I am happy to know I can get a fender for my bike. I will call you to order up the fender this week.

Wow I had completely given up on my quest for a missile kit. I will have to rethink a few things here very shortly.

That sounds great, where is the 515 area code? Why is it not as fast?Gearing? Thanks
TunaTodd
Hey Mr. Missle, did you ever produce one of these conversions for the 86 Tecate??
azsandrider
I would like to take a CR500 and modify it with a wider swingarm in the rear and a wider triple clamp in the front, essentially making it alot like the Missle kit......

I had a lot of fun with the one I had, but an increased rake would have help handling as a two wheeler.....

By flipping the forks around and putting the wheel out front it will increase the rake. It was unstable, it was jerky.
azsandrider
By doing that, you changed the trail, if you have the trail in front, then you will have severe handling problems.

The rake is the angle of the head stock. It is a sharper angle on a 3 wheeler compared to a dirt bike.

I'm going to contact John at missile in the morning and see if he makes a kit for the 83/84 r's. I have an 84 that I would love to make a two wheeler of. I also wanted to know if anyone has ever even seen a air cooled 250R with this type of mod? Of all the press I remember from the 80's I think they were all water pumpers. I got hold of a bw200 chassis for nearly nothing thinking maybe to use it's rear end,but the jackshaft bearing carrier area is munched. If I'm going to fab to fix that I figure I might as well build the whole swingarm.
RideSand
I want one of these. Badly.
firefirefire90
They never made kits for the aircooled 250R's. They did however make them for the Tri-z and the 350x as well as the liquid cooled 250R. They also made flattrack kits for all suspended three wheelers. The guy still makes all of his kits. A bit pricey though. Good luck, maybe you can get something custom made.
treshombre
Wow, How did I miss this thread??

That thing looks like a kick to ride.

TRH1 where abouts in Temecula do you live?

Need to get together and have a mrdune.gif icon_biggrin.gif

TD lives in Temecula as well
Timmay
It does look like it would be fun.
Was cruising my atc up and down the street last night just cause I hadn't started it in a few months.
firefirefire90
mmhmmm
johnnychrome
Thanks for the reply firefirefire90. I will probably wind up making my own swingarm srpocket/jackshaft assy. and hub,the 250r's rear brake assy. shouldn't be hard to reuse and maybe I can buy a fender from missile (john) and make it work on the earlier chassis. I think I need a break from the current project anyway, maybe I'll see what I can do with the old ATC.
firefirefire90
well if you need any help, you can either ask me, tres, or anyone else on the board. There is also www.3wheelerworld.com or www.3wheeler.org for much help. .org is more of a cali site of sorts and .com is a more east coast board but either one will help you out a lot. Both have a lot of info with very three wheeler oriented people.
