There was a topic here a while ago... been here for a bit... "WTF" was the title.
It went from bad to worse, some things got edited then deleted then it went from worse to horrible and finally the topic got "closed".
It was full of venom and hatred and anger at strangers and supposedly between friends. It was started under a cloud of deception, pulling innocents into the fray.
I mean, it got really ugly. And this is the thought that woke me this morning.
Closing the topic only locked out subsequent posts. It still allowed the topic to be viewed, thus giving attention and a manner of respect to the people who created the disaster. It did not allow for subsequent words to be written that might erase the ugliness, heal the wounds or encourage what GlamisDunes is really made of. In other words, it festered. A painful gash that would never heal.
I've seen a lot of drama on the GlamisDunes forums, many ugly words and angry missiles sent at each other and former friends. But that seems to be wanted and acceptable, even sought after. This WTF was nothing of the sort. It was designed to make us fight each other and it was done for the amusement of what I believe amounts to another version of the Internet Troll.
No, I won't make a habit of deletions, even when I read some of the really nasty things we say to each other. But I told you I wouldn't leave you guessing.
This was an underhanded attack on the GlamisDunes family and it was especially vicious and I just couldn't let it stand.

Let me first say... HAHAHA
Then I could go on to say how sorry I am and ask forgiveness of those who I have offended or hurt...but I have no intention of doing so. But I will in fact thank you all for showing me such a prime example of how petty we can become if pushed. I especially like when moderators condemn those who are "greenies" for insulting and maligning others, while ending their statements with "oh yeah and bluesky is a nut." Just as funny as how Bluescum's twenty year old nissan is environmentally friendly. By the way, I'm the king of Zaire. I am glad I could bring such hatred and animosity out in others. It brings warm feelings to my otherwise cold heart.I hope I have done irreparably more damage than Bluescum could have ever done. None of you deserve any less. Thanks for the show. I am glad I could contribute to it. Peace out late.

Hey Child (BTW, fitting name), most of us come here for fun and entertainment. Why don't you drop the attitude and join the party?

Ah, but this is his idea of a party and he's awfully glad we can all join.
Just another variety of Internet Troll. The style is not as sophisticated as others we've seen, but just as recognizable.

Vicki, you should have left WTF as a service to parents who think their kids are mature enough to be trusted to an internet account without supervision
Back before the internet all the local BBSes would always dread the hollidays when parents would buy their kids a modem and suddenly the level of maturity on all the board would take a massive nosedive. Usually the regulars would take most of January as a break from the computer and by February the newness of the new toy wore off and things settled back to normal.
For those who are surprised by this kind of response or the WTF thread in general...welcome to the wonderful on-line world
![[Frown]](frown.gif)
The dune boards have generally been a notch above most of the rest of the net and that's one of the things I've always loved about them. Something about surviving the dunes tends to make people more responsible it seems and the communties around the dune sites really bears this out. Heck just read though the posts over at DesertUSA or most Yahoo clubs and you'll be amazed how many people still live and breath the "on the internet no one knows you're a dog" lifestyle.

BTW I just noticed that if you click on someones profile there's an option to add them to your 'ignore' list. I've got a few names that I may have to test that one out with......

And you're right about DesertUSA... this kind of posting is constant over there and I've lost my patience.
