Can anyone tell me the torque value for the LT80 Cylinder Head nuts???

Its an 87..

Thanks
MrBudweiser
I would guess somewhere between 15-25 lbs.
ddbyrd3
I know the torque is low, but I prefer not to guess..

I ordered the manual, but is has been back ordered for 10 days....
MrBudweiser
I torque most head at 20 lbs. Some are different but most are the same.

Thanks Mr.B

Is that just a normal standard you torque LT80 heads to, or is that from the service manual????
MrBudweiser
Just something I go by, I normally won't even use a torque wrench on my own bikes and I have never had a problem(I have done it so many times that my hand is a pretty accurate wrench..lol). On customer bike I always go by specs just to cover my end of the service.

I have been told the LT80 head torque is 6.0-8.5 ft lb.. I torqued the head studs to 20 ft lb, snapped the suckers right off......

Next time I will wait for the manual to come in..

The new head studs should be in about the same time my back ordered manual comes in..
MrBudweiser
Damnit, that suxs. Sorry to lead you down the wrong path. Usally I can tell if a bolt is getting too tight but like I said I do it alot. Again, sorry but just as a disclaimer I said I was guessin...lol.

No problem O Mr. B

I verified what you suggested at the local motorcycle shop they told me 25 ft lb too.

Anyway.. new head studs should arrive about the same time my manual does so I can verify for sure.. And at least the head stud broke at the top and not in the case..

Thanks for the input though..
MrBudweiser
Ah, thats makes me feel better. So why did it break? Rusted?
ddbyrd3
No, no rust, I was using a "clicking" torque wrench, as I was tightening to the 25 ft lb BANG!!!!!!!!! snapped off...

They are 6mm head studs, real small, thats why I asked the guy at the shop "ARE YOU SURE its 25 ft lb????"

Oh yes sir it is....

Boy he wasnt happy when I went back to tell him how much of a bone head he was.....

Far cry from the 6.0-8.5 ft lb its suppose to be..

OH well, life is good, it gave me an oppertunity to go back to the shop and buy more goodies while I wait patiently for my shop manual..

One less quad I take to the dunes this weekend....

MrBudweiser
Ahh...I misunderstood your prior post. So I did give bonehead advice...lol...once again I apologize. I did not know they were 6mm, don't work on Suzuki's very often....I am prejudice..lol....sorry its not going but glad to see you are coming togeather with it.
ddbyrd3
Thats OK, I am prejustice too, Hondas all the way.. unfortunitly, Suzuki makes the best kid quad.. You cant beat the LT80, and until my kids are old enough to shift its the best bike...

Now if your talken manly bikes.... Team Honda all the way baby.. My 88 trx250r is the baddest machine ever made......
