I plan on stripping my frame down and having it powder coated. What do I do about the decal with the serial numbers??

Depends on what make of bike. For example honda's have a tag where others have a stamp. You are going to have to remove everything is my understanding for them to chemical dip it and then charge it.

if the numbers are engraved or punched in the frame rails sometimes you you can get away with it but its rare. the sandblasting will remove the decals in about 2 seconds. all grease needs to be removed or it will run down the frame when its in the oven and ruin the powdercoat. the more they sandblast the better the chance of the numbers being erased.

If the numbers get "erased" will I just be asking for trouble from "the man"?
Does any body have any ideas on how to preserve the serial number? I am pretty sure that my bike has a decal. (Suzuki)

Maybe call your local 5 0 and ask them. Then let me know but mine is a Honda that is stamped.

there are ways to register it without the vin numbers being apparent, but is it easy? its the DMV, you gotta get in line to get a form to fill out to get in another line to be sent home watching the mail for 3+ weeks, what do you think?

Do not jack around with no VIN!
Ask the PC shop if they can cover it while they do their magic.
If they can't call Officer Aleta at 619-220-5492 (he was easy to deal with with my VIN nightmare). Ask if you can bring the frame to your local sheriff station before you PC the frame so they can look at it, then you can go back after the PC and have them print you a new VIN sticker.
