How was it?
Gosh, tough to answer. I mean, what's the right word? Or words?
Or was it just enough to see the constant grins from each of the cleanup crew for the rest of the weekend?
I'd find myself smiling... almost constantly. So did everyone else.
Awesome. Fun. Exciting. Uplifting. "Cleansing." hehe
All of those things.
The turnout was good... spreading out the signups thinned out the main area in th morning but not by much. TomsBrother is right... by 9:30 we already had over 600 at the main staging area. We don't have a count yet... don't know how soon we will (I haven't unpacked a thing yet) but we were guessing and judging by the number of leftover t-shirts the count was at least as high as last year, maybe even higher.
The crowds for the drawing seemed easier to get through, making us think the turnout for the raffle was smaller than last year... until a BLM rep reminded me that they expanded the area by quite a bit and removed the debris that had intefered with the crowd last year.
The kiddie area was a huge hit. Goody bags for the kids, the bounce houses (two), and the hand-made safety signs were all terrific. Cathi Begin was tireless and was like the Pied Piper of Glamis with all those adoring children tagging after her
The raffle was all over by a record-breaking 1:30 but next year it may go longer... there are a ton of sponsors wanting to get involved in any way they can. It's great to see them stepping up... the offers were mind-boggling. I don't want to let out too much information too early, but next year's top raffle prize will knock your socks off!
And of course, we've already come up with some improvements for next year and one of the entries for "Most Unusual Item" will make a dandy trophy for the top spot
Congratulations to Glamis and those who loved her extra special this weekend!
