Well, tore it apart, and it is all sorts of pieces. I am pretty much going to need a lot of new stuff. If anyone knows of any deals, be sure to think of me. I need pretty much everything other than a case and tranny. I don't want to talk about specifics at this time, but will make a post with pics in the near future to explain better.

ouch...crank, rod, piston and cylinder huh? Head gone as well?
I know you will only take this as an opportunity to make it better and faster...but I can feel the sting in the rear pocket from here...

Those two turboed four cylinder quads looked real good going up the hill. I looked for you too meet up with 24V but everyone and their brother had a blue YFZ there. I didn't re-call your new sticker kit.
Good luck with the re-build.

Well, after some sleep, and thinking, I have decided to repair what I have. It is going to run me around 12-1500 bucks on the cheap side. But, I will have more power, and will be 478cc's. Not to mention, I am going to add a few other touches along the way. The bad part is, this ends my season. The good part is, it will be very fast again next season. I will be out for the golf tourney, but we are just going to drie out for sat, and leave early sunday. No quads, just the truck.
Mike- Not being able to follow you through the dunes is probably the worst part of this all. I was really starting to learn something. Oh well, everyone pray for a miracle, and maybe I can get it back together sooner than expected.

Can I guess? Any yfz over 50 hp needs a aftermarket rod. Either falcon or carillo or whatever. It isn't a question of if but when the stock rod will break. Once you cross that threshold you have to run a aftermarket rod. After a pipe and cam mod you can do one other mod and still be fairly safe. either a piston, a cam, or ported head but not 2 or more of them. Luckily you didn't trash the cases if this is what happened. Too bad 24. I liked racin ya. I know the feeling. I burned up my shee bad right before Halloween. My motor was only 10 hours old since the new crank, bore, and total rebuild.

Just takes green right? Good luck on getting your parts. I got lucky on mine. Hope you do too.

You could not be further from the truth. Not to mention, I have yet to hear of a rod failure on a yfz. Rod bearing, yes. But a rod, no. BTW, I personally know at least a dozen other people that are running the same setup I had with no problems. Lets just say mine was a freak failure. Not a normal common problem.

Neither. I wouldn't accept anyone else's $ anyways.

I can fix it myself, just have to
see about my other priorities first.

If your rod did break, and it broke just below the wrist pin it is a common failure. Anything over 50hp and more rpm its gonna eventually break. A friend of mine scattered his last year. You were lucky. It took his cases out also. Windowed top and bottom. It isn't a freak thing. This is one area the honda's are better.

My rod did not break. The failure had nothing at all to do with my rod. And, as for the rod breaking, that would be the first I have heard of it. I am not the all knowing by any means, but I have been researching this bike since the day I bought it, and never heard of that. Rod bearing failure, yes, but no rods. Sounds like a freak occurance. Just like the few honda guys that blew the side of there case out by gassing it when trying to kick start. Still feel safe buying that honda? Any of them will break, it is just a matter of when. I expected to blow my bike up, and am ok with the fact that it happened. Just wish it would have happened a little closer to summer.
