This morning in class (Natural Resource Conservation taught by a CBD supporter) I was listening to the blah blah blah of how Earths inhabitants (US) are destroying everything... and I just happen to look up and what is right next to me? GLAMIS!
No, I mean literally.
There was a huge topo map of all of California on the wall, about 1 inch from my head. I happened to be sitting RIGHT DIRECTLY next to where Glamis is, on the map.
Ironic huh? I am going to make that my permanent seat in the class.
I think that was some kind of phenomenal Glamis intervention, what do you think Slappy?

Stacy, sounds like that teacher is a real winner. He "IS" an inhabitant of earth right? Ever ask him what he thinks about that? Does he drive a car? If so he produces smog. And he better not have any kids. Anyone that thinks that humans are ruining the earth better not have kids. Does he live in a house? That house is built on land that used to be virgin, now it's ruined. I could go on and on. What a hypocrite! I HATE people like that.

Doug,
In his defense, he is teaching out of a book... not completely his opinion. The book is VERY interesting. Called "Natural Capitalism" by Paul Hawken.
Interestingly enough, the professor is on some type of BLM advisory council up here. Also, the CBD website is on the list of his resources.

Found this it was interesting too:
Land Grab 9/11/00
Some time ago I told the readers that we were at war with the government who was grabbing land. I didn't know as much then as I do now about the subject. I believe that our founding fathers would be gearing up for the revolution all over again if they were here today. Here is why. Our government has become the largest land owner in the west. This sounds bad but what I am about to say sounds even worse.
Our government is a oppressive occupation force on this land. That's right the government that was to be for the people and by the people has turned around. The sad part is we the people not only allowed it we voted the people into office who have orchestrated this new government oppression with our blessing.
Clinton and Gore have allowed the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and other agencies within the government to become an occupation force on the land with directions to drive the people off. Look at our own U.S. Forest Service National Recreation Area (Dunes) on the Oregon Coast.
First they started closing down more and more areas to recreational vehicles. Now they charge a fee just to go into our Dunes. However the one thing that has stopped more people than anything else is the fact that the Forest Service has enlisted their own rangers as law enforcement officers and put them out into the sand in large numbers as an occupation force to harass the recreational users until many have just stopped coming to the dunes.
I have been told this first hand by many former users of the dunes. Clinton and Gore are using The Antiquities Act from 1906 to override Congress and grab more and more land from our use. The Antiquities Act was not meant to set aside large tracks of land because they are pretty or it has old tree's on it.
I watched the program that has been running on Fox News about "Who owns the Land," and was glad to see the media expose this land grab for what it is. They showed farmers being put off the land to protect some insect. The government through the Forest Service, and any other government agency, will do whatever it takes to put us all off the land. They don't have to play by any rules or laws and will stoop to any method to get their way.
They have spies all through the citizenry who they call environmentalists. The enviro whacko's file suit in court for them and inform on you and I to them. They use every stupid misguided law they can to get us off the land. Where will it lead or when will it stop? I don't have the answer but I know that it is heading for a violent and very dangerous upheaval in this part of the country. I heard today that the Denver-based Mountain States Legal Foundation has filed suit in federal court in Washington against Clinton and his use of The Antiquities Act.
I hope the Judge's are wise and stop this land grab before the violence starts. I prey that they will follow our Constitution and uphold the law, and that our system of governments checks and balances works the right way for a change. It could save lives and turmoil we in the west don't need. Our economy and way of life are at stake. Our elected representatives are doing nothing to stop this taking. As I set here I think of what is going on with CARA and other land grabs and wonder why we keep electing people who would vote for these kind of oppressive laws. The sad thing is the very people who are helping take our land are also giving awards to those elected to stop this, the enviro whacko's thanked Peter DeFazio for his help. As this great big bear would say, "Only you can save the forest," and the way to do it is to vote the right way and get those who will take our land and deprive you of it, OUT OF OFFICE.
Michael E. Cook, Coos County Sheriff, Retired
All I have to say about land grabs is, if you dont think they will happen to you remeber the indians. If you think because your an american your government will respect you, remember the war veterans and their treatment. If you think you're free remember you pay taxes. If you think you are alone you are.
