A guy I know just said that he 'heard' that the new 450s (the Honda and Yamaha specifically) are faster than the Raptor 660!!

Now Im not the brightest bulb, but I have a 05' Predator and have ridden a 05' Raptor and I just cant imagine these 450s even hanging in the dust cloud!

Am I way off or what?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off

The raptor engine was yanked right off of an existing dual sport dirtbike (Not sold in the US) and stuck in the quad. It is a fairly old tech engine when compared to the 450's.

The 450's engines were both designed in the last 8 years or so with the latest technical bits and pieces. These were designed from the ground up to be competetion machines and in most all ways, will dominate the raptor. The raptor is plusher and has more torque. It is also larger ergonomically.

The 450's also have much less weight to push. The raptor is a great bike, don't get me wrong. Your buddy was correct though when he "heard" the 450's are faster.

I recently got to ride a YFZ450 with a pipe. It felt like it pulled harder than my old piped Banshee. I am very impressed with the way the bike runs but it rides like a rock.

Thats not the bike, its the seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i race a raptor up olds on my 250r atc i beat them easily.NOw for the 450s i can beat a stock one easily but a moded one it depends who gets the holeshot.Otherwords IMO the 450s will toast the raptor.Other than that i dont know how they ride my uncle had one got the yfz 450 instead his words the raptor is softer riding but felt top heavy but a good cruiser for the dunes the yfz is stiffer(more for racing) but better overall

Must have been an '04. My '05 rides much better then last years model. Different settings from the factory is the only difference.

Just talking STOCK vs. STOCK bikes, You guys are saying the Yamaha 450 and Honda 450 will beat the Raptor and Predator up, say, oldsmobile?

Im truely amazed! I guess they've come a long way since my ol' KFX400....

so, say, for instance, that you raced all four of these bikes up olds. and all were stock bikes and all had equal weight riders, same tires, etc.; How much are we talking about the 450s winning by here? 1/2 bike length? or what??

I guess I might understand the 450s hanging with the Predator since its 'only' a 500cc, but the Raptor is 6 freakin' 60 cc!! blink.gif

I'm not sure what year it is. I thought my Banshee rode like a POS also. My DS650 may not be as quick but it is like riding a recliner and it tows blown up bikes like a champ. icon_biggrin.gif

Your KXF400 was never built to be a full on competetion machine. If you remember back when the DRZ400 came out, it was no match for Yamaha's steller YZ400F dirtbike on the track. It was never meant to take on the YZ on a race course though. Your engine is derived from that one. It was a great trail bike just as the KFX is a great sport quad. Kind of like a 3.5L ferrari engine that puts out 355 horsepower compared to a 3.0L taurus motor that puts out 220. The two vehicles were built for different reasons.

And yes, stock on stock, right off the showroom floor, the 450's will take the raptor up the hill by a couple of bike lengths at least.

Just last week I was riding my trusty ATC 90 and blew the dust off that Raptor!!

C'mon...we all know Red will always beat Blue....unless the Red rider ain't so good

i havnt raced the yamaha 450 but i have beat 3 hondas with a pos 2001 raptor.one by 4 lengths.so i'm not sure what to believe yet.one day when the pos gives out i may have to switch to something different.

Modified Crapters are no problem for my old school LT500, But those damn modified yfz450's are pretty darn fast and to close to my back tires. I have heared rumors that the big 3, Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki are stepping up to 500cc in 2007. shock.gif

[QUOTE]I have not met a Predator that I couldn't beat, Raptors are not a problem either.

The Yamaha 450 and Honda 450 will beat the Raptor and Predator up oldsmobile any day of the week!

UPDATE:

Well, we were able to line up the following bikes and race up Oldsmobile a few times:

1. 2005 Raptor -stock
2. 2005 Predator -stock
3. 2005 Yamaha 450 -stock
4. 2005 Yamaha 450 with a slip-on and jet kit
5. 2003 Banshee ALLL tricked out

The Raptor was on its first trip out and barely broken in so...

The results were what I expected after talking to everyone about the new 450s

My stock Predator Did gett beat by the stock 450, but it was like one bike length at the top everytime so Im alright with that. icon_biggrin.gif

The piped 450 got me by about 3 bikes, damnit thefinger.gif

The tricked out banshee was a screamer of course!

Bottom line: I gotta get intake, exhaust and carb. work! grinpimp.gif
