Ok guys I am a buggy person, but the wife to be feels she needs to have a ride of her own. I have narrowed it down to a few bikes and I need your help in which you think is a better bike for her in Glamis. She is very athletic and close to 6ft tall, so keep that in mind. I need a bike for her that is forgiving in the ride dept., she needs a smooth ride (as much as possible) due to bad back. I know she does not need to even be on a quad, but she insists. She rode a honda 450 and it beat the poo out of her, so the little bikes are out. I kinda like the scrambler 500 since it has strut front suspension and auto trans, but I also like the DS650 due to its size and suspension also. She is a first time rider, but showed me how capable she was on the 450 so we do not need a "beginner bike". She needs enough power to not be the slowest on the rides, but she is not a hill racer either. Any help would be appreciated since you guys may know better than me what would make a good fit. Thanks!!!

It seems like everybody that has riden the DS650 thinks it rides like a cadilac. If she has a bad back, you might want to look into that bike.

I would get the DS650 over the Scrambler.

Just my $.02 I just picked up a 05 preditor 500 and it seams to have more than enough power and a surprisingly good ride, I'm on the short side 5-8 but it feels rather large to me. might be a option. thumb.gif

icon_biggrin.gif The big yellow couch is what they call a DS might just be the ticket though in this case. If I remember correctly Hozay is selling one for a good price look in the buy and sell it has paddles and dez tires and I think he was going to give you a tank of gas also

I don't know much about the scrambler. The DS does ride extremely well and has the torque for her to stay in third gear almost all the way through the dunes if she wanted. It is rugged as hell. It is also very heavy. I have heard almost all posative things about the DS.

thumb.gif Yep I think the KFX700 will do her good and is the best one out of the three.

I bought my wife the Scramblewr 500. She is a first timer also and it has enough power to get her anywhere she chooses to go. Pretty good milage as well. Would buy again. She loves it.

DS650!!!! i can ride for hours w/o backpain or thumb or any pain. it is the best bike i think. it gets me anywhere i want to and very very smoothly. it has a foot of travel in the front and 11.5 inches in the rear so it is a very nice ride. i go through those rail ruts very good compared to Raptor's, YFZ's, and all of them. i love my bike cause it is the Cadillac if quads. GREAT BIKE!

well....I have a v force 700
I have a ds650
and I have owned several polaris quads..

here are a few things to consider...
the ds...best overall suspension, gobs of power, at times can be uncontrolled jerky torque...no reverse

700...rear end bottoms to easily..front suspension feels too stiff, easy powerband..controlled, forward and reverse, no shifting gears

polaris- forward/reverse...soft front, soft rear suspension..probably the best of the 3 to own for overall application of what you shared..BUT..
resale around here sucks....and you probably would not enjoy riding it as much as one of the other bikes...
there is no doubt that the ds has the best suspension...it has never given me one of those "jarring" back compression feelings..but it has almost jerked my arms out of socket...
the 700 is a stiff bike
the polaris bikes are also though somewhat like that...

The DS is VERY Heavy, Thats why they call those sand pigs, you should be able to pick one up pretty cheap , around 3K,just look around. As far as the scrambler, I know you were just joking and didnt actually want to buy one , right ? laughing.gif

heavy??? rolleyes.gif everyone says heavy...well, mine flies through the air as good as any other quad...
its kinda like toyota owners saying full size diesels are heavy...
nah!!!
just bigger...and badder..thats all.... icon_biggrin.gif
there is a time and place for everything....a ds is not a track bike..that I agree with..
but, do you ride a track??? that is the question....
MichaelAZ
No it doesnt sound like his wife rides a track but she is also a woman and with a bad back it may be difficult to move the bike around if shes stuck or sometimes you need to "muscle" the bike, I had a ds for my 16 year old, sold it, he just couldnt control it or move it around, it controled him and that can be dangerous at times IMHO. Otherwise its a solid bike.

read which way I steered him based on my owning all these bikes...

I would say go with the DS they have the power and the suspension, you could go for a whole day of riding at the dunes and felt like if you have never rode at all.

my .02 cents thumb.gif

i vote DS

You know I'm gonna vote DS! I've had mine since early 2001, and it truly has BY FAR the best ride out there. Yes it's heavier than most of the others, but not once you put a +2 axle, +2 swingarm, +2 a-arms and a decent set of shocks on most of the others, to bring the stance and suspension up to what the DS comes with from the factory.

Change out the front sprocket to one tooth smaller, and you can pull 3rd gear throgh just about anything. I dune mine all day long in 3rd and i love it!
grasshopper
DS without a doubt.
