Ok I need to buy new bars for my hubby's YFZ450. He crashed and bent them pretty good..... Is there anything special about bars? What should I be looking for?

Any and all information on this will definately help. Thanks all.
retodd
mostly the difference between bars is the bends. there are also two types to get. there is a standard thickness bar and there is a big fat bar that requires an adapter to mount it.

Ok, thanks retodd. I will make sure to look at the standard thickness. I really don't want to have to deal with adapters. My luck i'd get the wrong one.

Gotta get this issue dealt with this weekend so I have something to ride for the tourney weekend.... Don't see where I have time to go looking for my new ride.

I would get the standard alum bars. Tag, Pro taper etc. are a lot stronger than stock. If he crashes again its best to have the bars bend and not the stem. Bars are cheap and easy, stems are not. Just my .02.

I berry much like going to bars and drinking camel toe juice.

I really like renthal bars. I'm sure most aftermarket bars are all pretty well built and much better than stock. I've had extremely good luck with renthal's though. I've put them on every bike I've had.

i like full bars where i can have a beer, jack-n-coke and a shot of jager all at the same time laughing.gif beer.gif

Stock thickness is 7/8". So just make sure that is the diameter of the new bars, so you don't need to adapt them. If not, I have a spare set of stock bars you can have. PM me if you want them.

Ok y'all, I knew asking this great crowd would give me super information as well as comic relief.

For those of you that had helpful info I really thank you. 24V thanks for the offer, but before I read this we went and bought bars, althought I am not overly happy.... After the new bars were installed he found that the bars were really not the problem.... Now mister has the task of replacing the steering stem... Yes he bent it. Of course he had a sent of Renthals on it, and thought they were bent... Not the case.

Now my question is.....
How much of a problem will this cause, the bent stem? Is this something I need to be concerned with? Will the bent stem cause serious steering problems or is it ok to be put off till after the 4th of July trip?????

Many thanks in advance..... thumb.gif

Depends how bad it is bent. After a few minutes of riding with a slightly bent stem, he should get used to it. If it is at harsh angle, it might be a good idea to fix it now.

I would inspect the stem closely to make sure it isn't cracked at all. Wouldn't want that sucker coming apart at speed.

I will suggest this to him. I will be the one riding that beast this weekend. I certainly hope it isn't messed up to bad.... Gives me second thoughts, but there is no other choice, other than to be rideless this weekend. I was busy with the trailer while he was working on his bike, so I am only going by what he is telling me....

Well da moofer went joy riding in the dirt instead of joining us in Glamis on my last trip out. He actually crashed it twice in the same day. And both crashes got him in the same spot. In fact he was a limpin for about 2 weeks till the bruising and swelling finally started to go away. That'll teach him to go play with youngins insead of joining his family for sure... laughing.gif
