Well all I can say is that this was one bitchin weekend. I feel sorry for all the lazy bastards that stayed home because it was going to rain all weekend. The weather was perfect, minus the 30 minute rain storm on saturday. Tore up some bitchin sand down in GW. I dont think Ive seen the dunes that empty on a holiday weekend ever. We only had to stop for one other group one time. Sand was rough, but very ridable.

Now for the shitty part, I think I burnt up my clutch. On suday when we went to leave the sand drags my bike fired right up shifted into gear but then nothing. When I let out my clutch the bike didnt move. I could cycle through all my gears finding nuetral. But when it came to moving the bike was dead in the water. It is a 97 yamaha warrior, I dropped the front sprocket down a tooth, full FMF system and jetted the bike. So I know I added some power to the that 8 year old clutch. That is why I lean to that as the problem. Any other suggestions.

If it is the clutch I wanted to know if there is anyone in the mesa gilbert area who is good at fixing a problem like this. I want to get it done ASAP as we are hoping to make another trip out to the desert.

There is a 24 pack of you choice beer.gif and my wife makes some killer enchaladas. As soon as I can make sure its the clutch I will order one any suggestions on who makes a good clutch kit for the yamahas

Clutch's smutch's there real easy. Id say stick to the stock one from Yammi lasted you 8 years right even with all the pony's you thru at it it should be fine. get your parts in hand and then PM me and we will learn you clutch assy101. Ill be in Glamis for the Golf Turney this weekend so were looking at next Tue at the earliest.

Damn that was fast. Hell whats your drink order.

I am going to drop off the side case, tonight or tomorrow, but ive got a quick question. Do I need to disassemble the clutch lever first. Or do I just disconnect the clutch cable and leave the puller assembly in the case. I dont want to buy a new clutch only to find out I really broke something else. I want to make sure the basket spins

Not sure on that one unsure.gif should be able to just remove the cable and leave the rest alone. Where are you located ?
LTDANIEL
yeah take off the clutch cover, make sure that there is nothing else broke,

yeah just take off the clutch cable from the lever on the bar then disconect it from the lever on the cover,

feel free to ask me any question icon_wink.gif

If you did burn your clutch, you should have noticed it slipping real bad before it finally let go. If it was working great before you parked it and wouldn't go after you fired it back up, something else is the problem.

Smell your engine oil. If it smells burnt, this is a good indication that your clutch had been slipping for a while. I would highly recommend buying a shop manual and using it while dissassembling the clutch basket. The pictures will tell if anything is broken and you can find copies of the HONDA FACTORY manual (Worth it's weight in gold) on ebay for about $40.

In the event that all your problem is is a worn out clutch, you should be able to get away with replacing the fiber clutches only. The steels will usually be good for another 8 years. You will have to file down the grooves along the fingers of the basket. No big deal if this is the original clutch.

The only other thing I can advise is use an air or electric powered impact gun on the clutch basket nut. Pretty much the only way to get it off without using special tools.

Carefull when removing the clutch pushrod. There is a small ball bearing that comes out and quickly heads for the last place you would look for it. angryfire.gif

Im on southern and lindsay in mesa, as for the slipping. I noticed that for most of the day I was having issues getting the bike to shift, I was missing going from second to third. Im not sure if that is because of the clutch or if it was a problem with the transmision(praying its not the tranny).

I have the Clymer repair manual, but im just not comfortable enough to try anything internal. But I can rejet and rebuild that carb in 30 minutes icon_smile.gif Im just working my way up. Never had a bike to work on before so this is new. I mean we all have to start somewhere

It may also be the rod that pushes the pressure plate to disengage, same thing happend to my friends blaster, the rod was bent, because the spring he put in it,then the rod finnally broke.

maybe thats whats wrong?
Fireballsocal
You can also try adjusting the clutch cable at the clutch lever. There is a large lock nut you unscrew to loosen the cable then screw out the cable counter clockwise 4 or 5 complete turns. Tighten the lock nut back up and see if your clutch works.
LTDANIEL
As fireballsocal said, smell your oil to see if the clutch is burnt.

yeah make sure that you clutch is adjusted right it might be disengaging the clutch a little.

Well, with my experience with clutches, here ya go.

Make sure that the clutch lever is returning all the way and not being held up by the cable.
If it is, then there is something wrong somewhere else. Sounds like you just burned it up. Just take it apart and look at the fiber discs. Buy factory clutches. Those kevlar ones don't like to separate when they get hot and make finding nuetral a pain in the butt. But, clutches are very easy to assemble and reassemble. When you put it back together, make sure you only have about 1 to 1.5 inches of free play at the end of the clutch lever.

I have a Warrior service manual on my hard drive. PM me if you need a copy. I can burn you one. I am at Power & Thomas.

I have a 94 Banshee and have been into the clutch several times. I have the manual and all of the tools necessary to make an easy job very easy. The air tools make all of the difference. If you don't have them you can use my garage to do the repair. I am at Power and Queen Creek. I will be at the golf tournament from Thursday through Sunday. I could fit you in tonight or tomorrow if you have the parts. The job doesn't take long if you have the right equipment. thumb.gif
AZDUNERAT
Well Az I think I might take you up on that, how about tomorrow night, I need to call around and see who has the clutch in stock. Do you think that I should go with and aftermarket like a barnett clutch or just stick with the stock??

Aaron

PS whats your drink order??? beer.gif
Lucky
I say go with an aftermarket one. There are alot of good ones out there, but most places have to order them. So you may end up having to go with stock.
AZRENEGADE
Unless you are heavily modified the stock clutch should do just fine. Email me if you want to set a time. I will set you up with what you need and kind of look over your shoulder to make sure that things go right while I pack for Glamis(we are leaving Thursday in the AM). Supervised OJT is the only way to learn these things. Just make sure that you have all of the gaskets, oil and parts necessary to complete the job. I have enough left over parts and pieces from modifying my Banshee to take care of any unexpected issues. No drinks are necessary, this one is on the house! thumb.gif
AZDUNERAT
OIC the first one is free then you will start charging. If I can get the clutch today, would tonight work better? I dont want you to have to go out of your way or me get in the way. I know how packing can go, we just got back and man what a circus that was.
AZRENEGADE
Tomorrow is no problem but it would be smarter to do it tonight. If we run into any serious issues we would have a day to deal with it. It's your call. The first one is free and ,I forgot to mention, so are the rest. I just enjoy working on Banshees. thumb.gif
AZDUNERAT
umm is it a problem if its a warrior......not a shee
AZRENEGADE
No problem. I own a Warrior, too. I have never changed the clutch but I do have the service manual so there should be no problem. Can't be much of a difference.
NascarGirl99
well I cracked the heads in my car. icon_sad.gif
AZDUNERAT
well Kenz cycle has the clutch cover gasket in stock and the Barnett clutch for 105. I tried calling the local stealerships and no one has a clutch in stock. So I will head over to kenz after work and pick up the kit, and cross my fingers that the clutch is the problem. Tonight works great so give me a holler @480-203-1387 and I will get directions and figure out a time to get this done
