I saw Life Flight land at Patton on Saturday around 1, and then saw one fly over Test on Sunday afternoon, anyone know what happened?
HA2
my buddy was there and said something about some guy on a three wheeler jumping and landed on some girl in a golf cart. i was in glamis and heard this from hearsay so it might be slightly inaccurate.
The Wife
the first one at Patton on Saturday at 1, I heard something about a motorcycle vs. buggy. so I didnt want to say anything until I knew for sure.

From what I was told the guy with The Green/Blue Golf cart who is always doing wheelies ACROSS test/Patton was doing his normal jackass drive across the hill routine when a motorcycle jumped off the top and landed on his passenger who was a girl, and from what I heard is REALLY messed up!

Got a call from my GF at the paper today asking where "5 miles west of Ogilby" would be as apparently there was a death there today (monday). I'm not sure if 5 miles puts it in the dunes or on the sand highway west of the dunes...but it's bad news for sure icon_sad.gif

However she worked all weekend and they didn't have any other reports of deaths. So either the BLM hasn't reported them yet (but for some reason reported one from today) or the other accidents this weekend thankfully did not result in deaths.

I was at patton but didn't see exactly what happened...it was a two wheeler and golf cart. Life Flight landed and then took off. Rangers ran you off if anyone tried to get close to the accident. They where on the seen quick.

BLM medics were working on a guy wih a lower right leg injury near Patton about noonish on Saturday. They said they'd called the helo about an hour prior, but it never came icon_sad.gif , so they were planning on driving him out. Leg was bandaged, but not splinted, so it must not've been busted, just cut up badly. We left before they did, and went towards Test, so the helo might've come in behind us...

On Edit: From what TeeDee sez, what we saw must've been a different incident, because it was on the other side of the flats from the hill. That would explain why the rangers were on scene so quick... they were already there!
Timmay
Yea it was right at the bottom of the hill.
Also saw it land mid morning saturday by the canal way up the third base side, don't know what happened there.

I saw three life flight helicopter flights over the weekend, But I think one was heading towards buttercup. I did see what looked like a quad rail accident just over the drag strip heading towards comp hill. overall I thought it was a pretty quiet weekend for being a holiday

I was at Patton when it happened. The guy in the golf cart was doing wheelies up the hill, a guy at the top of the hill on a motorcycle came down off the top, I don't believe he was jumping off the top, and they hit. Motorcycle guy had two broken bones in his leg and a punctured lung. Girl in the golf cart was ejected with head injuries according to the EMS.

My group talked about the accident and determined that it was the guy on the motorcycles fault for not looking down the hill before coming off the top. Everyone saw the golf cart and knew that he was there and what he was doing.

Definately sad for everyone involved. Everyone seemed to be moving when we left.

Has anyone got any pictures of the drags Friday and Saturday at Gordons? How bout the motorhome that made a parade lap? I swear I saw more wrecks this weekend. Every hill we came over there was a quad, bike or buggy wrecked. I came across a rolled duramax crewcab that rolled down a bowl late Saturday night on the way back from test. The dummy thought it was a dune buggy or something. $65000 pile of junk now.
Timmay
No pics unfortunately. I came across a rolled jeep on the way back from test on saturday night. She had just rolled onto one side, so I hooked up a tow rope to her and pulled her upright. No one hurt and not too much damage to the jeep.
Anyone see the orange ford coming down test on sunday afternoon, almost friggin rolled the thing down the hill...he was sideways sliding down and could't straighten it out. blink.gif

I talked to the ranger on the way out of gordons on monday, they said one death at about noon somewhere by ogilby. He didn't say how.

when I got to Patton, a buddy of mine said, Hey remember the guy in that golf cart that ran over the motorcycle guy a last year, well he just hit another one, I saw the cart there, but no rangers were paying attention to him and he drove off while the rangers were still working on the person that got life flighted, I dont know about you, but if a passenger of mine got hit, I sure as hell would stick around to make sure the copter came and they got out of there, then I would haul ass to the hospital.

I have seen that guy several times in that green/blue cart, he drives like a fricken idiot, I am convinced he is going to kill someone someday.
SANDFANATIC
Reasons like these are prime examples of why I don't go to the drags or the hills that much. The further away from these idiots I am the better. I know it can happen anywhere, but why purposely go where you know they will be?
SandNDI
I seen the dude on the golf cart riding wheelies down the drags on friday night with a passenger. Some of the sand cars get kind of sideways because of some of the ruts in the sand, dude was a fool on a cart, and close to the crowd on the south side. I hope his victims are ok. ph34r.gif

I'm not a fan of those golf carts AT ALL. They just seem so unsafe to me.
SDB
The guy in the golf cart drives like an absolute idiot! I don't care if you own the dunes nobody has any business driving sideways on hill during a busy weekend! That is just stupidity! It's unfortunate his pasenger was hurt and not him!
gparrott
I saw the accident at Patton. There was a lot of people at the top of the hill, but apparently no one spotting for the bike. icon_confused.gif

Got out to patton about 1pm and we couldn't figure out why the rangers were swarming around the base of the hill. we were parked in back. 20min after we got there the smoke flare was lit and in came life flight. The stories I heard at Patton on Saturday sound similar to what I read here. Scary stuff icon_uhoh.gif

KmDuner, I think we were camped right next to you guys. Did you have a berm track in the middle of your camp with kids riding all around it? If so, We were just east of you. Like the camp just to the east of you(towards the drags), from where your buggy was. I thought it was you, but didn't know for sure. We had a couple toy haulers and three tents. Bunch of 400ex's, 2 450r's, and my yfz.
KMDuner
Nope wasn't us, didn't have a berm track in camp but the kids were riding around camp but not in it. We had a small camp this time only two rigs. Next time stop by and say hi, we'll go for a spin.

The earlier Life Flight was a friend of mine, he had a compound fracture of his leg, with bone through the skin and was losing blood the EMT's were great and very professional, it did however take one hour for Lifeflight to show up, but he is doing fine and I have pics of his leg if anyone wants to see headbang.gif

Fellow Duners:

The death out near Olgby was a very nice young man named Seth D'Luzansky. He was 16 years old and new to the sport, as is his father (Matthew) and older brother (Adam). They have camped with us the last two times we were out to the Dunes. This young man was very active in his youth worship team and had done mission work in Chili. Funeral Services will be Saturday 2/26/05 in Flagstaff. Please join me in prayers for Seth and his family. Per the family suggestion, anyone who wishes to, may send donations to a memorial fund in Seth's name to:
