We saw a few people down that looked pretty serious, but never saw any helicopters .

Do we have any reports from Glamis yet for the weekend ???

There was an incredible amount of police coverage this weekend.

CHP
SHERIFFS
BLM
MEDICS

*************

I saw a lot of warnings being handed out and some tickets.

I , for one, was happy to see the amount of coverage over by GEKO, I liked that
alot of people were sweeting ....

ANY STORIES ????????????????

Good weekend. Saw LEO's on 450R out at China Wall. Did not see any confrontations. Olds was very mild on Saturday and Sunday.

A buddy of mine got a ticket. 20 yards or so out of bounds. But, I'm happy to report my first positive encounter with a Glamis LEO happened at Olds on Sunday when a ranger came up to give my buddy hell for not having a whip. He was actually very polite and professional, but he did make us load the bike with the broken whip into a truck to take home. As he was leaving, a few from our camp went up and shook his hand... icon_smile.gif

I always thought sweet was an adjective, not a verb. How does one sweet? And is it a good or a bad thing? icon_wink.gif laughing.gif

Great weekend! tongue.gif All cars ran flawlessly for the entire weekend. Went for a night ride to Olds on Saturday night, it was the most crowded I had ever seen it at night. LEO's everywhere, but didn't see anything getting out of hand.

I thought it was very crowded, more so than any other weekend this year? There was little to no rain all weekend, but the dunes are torn up bad.

Had a nice beverage stop with Vicki in the middle of the dunes on Sunday afternoon. It is so great to be able to just run into friends in the middle of nowhere.

My daughter had her first all day buggy ride, she did good. Here she is,[attachmentid=16952]

Not in the dunes, but on the way home we saw soooo many people getting pulled over. Someone would pass us and not 2 minutes later we'd see them pulled over getting a ticket.

We were taking someone's quad to their family (they had broken their leg in the dunes) and so pulled our entire group up to the drags.
We hadn't even gotten off of our quads when the Rangers were there ready to hand out the tickets.
One 9 year old had broken her whip. (actually I broke it while kickstarting her Blaster).... That cop was on her quick! If she hadn't been a 9 year old girl I'm SURE she would have gotten a ticket, even though her dad was 5 feet away reparing the damn thing.
Then they started in on the mothers of the kids.
"Where is your mother? Who is your mother?"
When mom was pointed out to him he couldn't jump her case fast enough...
"You know that a Blaster is too big for her? And that 400ex is too big for your other daughter as well!"
We all told him that those two girls could outride most of us so he should back off.

Keep in mind that we were on a mission of mercy, helping out a fallen duner. Normally, we would not go within a mile of the drags.

Oh, forgot about the Ranger who pulled into our camp in his truck. He pulled up to the campfire so he could talk without getting out... (how rude!)
Not sure exactly what went on but he tried to say something about our yellow tape, which was around our camp and not saving any "extra" space at all. The whole time he was complaining to us, there were large fireworks going off over his head from a camp not too far away.
We found the whole experience to be quite humorous!

I am glad to say that I can finally add something to these conversations. Me and my buddy got to Gordons Wed. afternoon. Had the place mostly to ourselves which was nice since it's been a year since we've ridden in the dunes. The dunes were still damp from the rains though. Thursday morning we went up to Gecko Rd and people were already taping the area off for all their friends that they were expecting. They actually put the tape across our camp and two spaces beyond. They came up and informed us that they were expecting 11 more RVs in the next few days and asked if we minded them taping in front of our truck. I had no problem with is as we were only there until that evening. I can understand marking off your camp so others don't ride thru but the yellow tape thing on Gecko was wayyyy out of control. I thought it was first come first serve? The dunes were in decent shape. We also got a nice display of flying from the #7 Blue Angel plane. The dunes were in good shape considering all the previous rains. What would I know though since I only see them once a year. Got to go see China Wall. We hadn't seen it since two years ago. Did my first night ride to Olds. That was exciting given my lack of familiarity with the terrain. It was pretty dead. Only one truck and maybe 4 quads. For Friday we headed back to Gordons as we were staying in a hotel in Yuma. People starting pouring in that day. During the Drags it seemed like the LEOs were making quotas writing tickets. It seemed a little excessive if you ask me. Didn't seem like there were people getting way out of line. Maybe they were setting precedence for the weekend. The dunes had gotten some rain that evening. Saturday, back at Gordons, it rained pretty good in the afternoon. We noticed that the LEOs had taken a more relaxed attitude toward the crowds. They mainly seemed to just lurk in the shadows as compared to the aggressive stance they had the day before. The dunes were all chopped and rutted up by this time. I didn't care though, as I was having the time of my life.

All in all it was another great Glamis trip. My only regrets is that we didn't make it over to Wash 13.5 to meet everyone. However, our plans for next year include camping in the dunes so we'll definitely be making a trip to the Washes.

I envy you all for your close proximity to the beautiful dunes we call Mother G.

We left early on Monday. 12:00 noon, and when we pulled out, the 86s was just
backed up for miles from Brawley. So, we took the 115 to the 111 and around
bnack of the Salton Sea.

The rain started real hard when we got back there and damn that was interesting
watching the run off come across the highway. It was at tleast a foot deep in most
places and the water was coming across the road at a high pace, sending mud and
rocks in front of us. That was fun, hitting at about 20-30 with the truck and the
trailer behind us.... wow.

But we still saved a lot of time.

IS IT TIME TO GO BACK TO GLAMIS ??????????

"HAVE A GREAT DAY"

I was out there. Sorry, but I didn't get to meet anyone. I was very disappointed about this myself.

Got a question on this Brian...
Did they ask for safety certs from either the Mom or the girls?
Did they define "too big"? Their is no law stating those girls can't be on those bikes and the rules only state the child needs to be able to reach all controls on the bike.

And Brian-we really need our old green rolley eyes guy back-please, pretty pretty please? This one ( rolleyes.gif ) just doesn't get the point across icon_wink.gif
The Pastor
The green "roll eyes" guy will be back...

No, they didn't ask for certs... only wanted to badger and generally make the parents feel guilty for letting their kids ride quads they "said" were too big for them.

Now, keep in mind that we camped in the Washes and we were at the Drags when this happened. There were 5 or 6 fast buggies leading our ride and we definantly did not go on the road!

Yeah, we all knew that there was no law and this guy was really just trying to "do his part", I suppose, to make parents feel guilty for letting them ride a real quad. We shined him on like he wasn't there and went about our business which was family oriented, non-alcoholic and non-threatening.
