Desertdogs

Here's the story that Mike330R alluded to.
There we (JusBryan and Desertdogs, with passengers) were duning at about the drop of sunset, when we came across a dune and saw three redtails flying along. We parked the buggies and watched them for a while. Soon we saw one of the hawks fly higher and higher, then joined by another. After a bit, we saw an amazing thing....two hawks joined legs and started falling down towards the ground! Just before they hit, they would seperate, and fly back up into the sky. They did this several times...finally dawned on us that:
Mr. Redtail was getting himself some Missus RedTAIL!!!
We grabbed our cameras and started edging closer to where they were.
One flew off into the distance, and another hung out. Third one landed on a dune too far for us to talk pictures, so I started to wal towards it. Never got close enough, but it did lead us to the nest. Which will be a guarded secret.
Here is a few pics. Next day Mike330R and I drove by and tried to get a few more. His pics on Tuesday are better than what I got.
On the way back to florida, kept seeing Redtails sitting on the fences and cactuses near the road. I took a few shots, and will post the best. I-10 west of Flatonia had the largest concentration of Redtails per square mile that I've seen.
Enjoy em!

getting close to that bugger is no easy task. even on foot. i have no clue how we got so close in mike's big diesel that one time. but he is one smart cookie and has a sharp eye for intruders.
