Believe It, Or Not... I may make this an ongoing thread. Anyway, first story...
I was riding passenger in a very fast buggy. He pulled a second gear wheelie and shifted to third with the front end still high in the air. As soon as he let out the clutch in third the trans locked up, the front end slammed down, and we slid to a stop with the back tires locked up. The Mendi was done for sure.

Another story...
A friend and I were out riding quads at Mother G. We were way out in the big dunes where few people go. I saw something crawling across a dune so I moved in closer to inspect the situation. It was a badger. So I jumped off my quad, pulled the camera out of my back pack, and tried to get a pic of the little moofer. No can do. He ran and hid inside a big bush. No way for me to get a pic of him hiding in there. And when I got close to the bush he got pissed off big time. So I left him alone and went on my way.

A few years ago, we saw a Badger in the big bowls near Osborn, Grant was leading on ride back from Olds; we stopped to check it out but it didn't like us much. I think it was stuck in the botom of the bowl and couldn't climb back out, kinda like an old ATC 90.

I once saw a buggy rear end the buggy in front of him, bounced up off one of the rear tires into sort of a wheelie, stayed on the gas, and somehow managed to drive up on to the top of the cage of the buggy he rearended. He then stayed on the gas and drove down the front of the buggy he was on top of. So basically he drove over another buggy while both buggies were moving.

Once I was out at China Wall with a few other friends in buggies. One guy with a nice V8 powered long travel buggy says he can go half way up the hill, stop completely, and then start going again without getting stuck. We all say no way, can't be done in a buggy that heavy. So he straps in and goes for it. He stops like he said he would, then revs the engine to the moon and dumps the clutch. A wall of sand shoots up, the car doesn't go forward, instead it pulls a wheelie... followed by the car flipping backwards onto it's roof. Once we saw him climb out and knew he was OK we laughed our asses off. Luckily it didn't really damage the car, except one exhaust header got bent.

So once a friend of mine debeaded a tire out in the big dunes west of Comp at night. We didn't have any air compressor or any way to re-seat the tire, so I drove my buggy, with another buggy, back to camp to get one of the spare paddles we had at camp. We didn't have a GPS that night (this was several years ago) but we did have two walkie talkies. So we get the paddle and head back to the general location and try the radio. He can hear us but can't see us and we can't see him. To make a long story shorter, it took a long time of going dune to dune and flashing my lights until we finally found him. Got the spare paddle tire mounted and we get set to leave. My buddy takes off first, goes down the dune right in front of him, freaks out (not being an experienced night driver), and cuts the wheel to the right really hard at the bottom of the dune. Yep, you guessed it, he debeaded the other paddle tire after only ONE fricken dune. I was so mad, yet could do nothing but laugh at that point and go get him another spare paddle. When I got the second paddle to him I made him ride biatch and I drove his buggy back to camp. My patience has limits.

I once rode passenger in a buggy with a friend of mine and he pulled a wheelie going up a big dune. Big deal, right? Well... this wheelie lasted over five minutes. I win!

That story is more than 100% true. Even though I didn't time it, we did a wheelie for well more than 5 minutes. This guy absolutly loves wheelies and is the best I have EVER seen at doing them. He will do a first gear wheelie up a dune, draggin' the tail the whole time, and use the turning brakes to steer. He put a dry sump oiling system on his engine just so he could do unlimited wheelies. We wheelied all the way across this dune from one side to the other, then back again, then back to the other side, then back again, over and over. When we finally got to the top of the dune he did a perfect 360 degree spin while still in a wheelie. Amazing.
The guy lives in Oregon so he doesn't get to Glamis that often. But I heard one year, even though I wasn't there to see it, that he completely shut down the drags at Glamis while everyone watched him put on a spinning wheelie show.
Yes, he is completely nuts.

Once when I was about 11 years old my dad was driving hard on the dunes and we had just come back into the camp area. We were on the south side of the road and this was the good old days when there was camping on the north side, so we still had to go down by the tracks and cross over. Right then I see a very disturbing thing, while going about 40 the steering wheel comes off. Without missing a beat my dad hands me the steering wheel and slows to a stop. Then he pulls his key chain out of his pocket where he had a small keychain wrench and he opens it up to its widest, slams it on the steering column and gasses the buggy. I am still holding the steering wheel and thinking why is he going so fast now? Much faster than before! As soon as we hit a bump and the front wheels were in the air he made a slight adjustment to our direction. He continued like this all the way back to camp. You should have seen everyone’s faces when we pulled into camp and I was pretending to steer. Of course I was scared out of my mind and only pretended to steer after he told me, get that look off your face and pretend to steer! Nothing like living on the edge of terror.

Another story...
A few years back I meet this guy at Glamis. He has a nice long-travel buggy and tells me he plans to jump the canal. I was like, "Sure dude, I believe you." He tells me he is not kidding and invites me to come along and video him doing it. I say sure, I wouldn't miss the chance. So we drive along the west side of the canal looking for a good place to jump it. This took over an hour before we found the right spot.
So the guy makes a couple of practice runs to make sure he has enough room to get up to speed. No problem, it's pretty flat and straight and he can get as much speed as he needs.
The time comes for the jump and I set up to video it from the west side, while a friend of the driver is going to video it from the east side of the canal.
I gotta say, even though I was just videoing the jump I was pretty nervous about if he would make it.
So he goes way back, heads toward the canal at about 60-70mph. I'm thinking this will be the video footage of the century! About 100 yards or so before he gets to the canal he slams on the brakes and slides to a stop. My guess at that point was that he wanted one more final practice run before finally doing the jump.
Nope. He shut off the car and got out, shaking like crazy. He admitted to all of us that he wanted to do it but just couldn't get up the courage to do it. He spent so much time thinking about it and planning it out that he scared himself out of doing it (my impression anyway).
What a wasted day. Didn't get to see any carnage.
