One slight clarification VoR. Only those who's comments the BLM accepted from the first round of comments will be allowed to comment in this next period.
The BLM could easily do what they've done in the past and refused to include valid comments for no reason and leave a lot of pepople who deserve to be heard out in the cold. Of course as with anything the BLM does it also opens the doors for lawsuits from both sides.
Right now we all need to be alert and pay attention but the only way most people will be able to comment is through one of the organizations or individuals who's comments are responded to by the BLM. This is one of the reasons the ASA was trying to get so many people to write in their own comments and speak at the meetings durring the last comment period. Bulk letters from a generator like the CBD asked people to use and the BRC provided (and eventually for the last few days the ASA offered as well) generally get tossed out in this process and don't get included.
But no matter what the big fights are still ahead. Look at it this way:
1) We win and get a plan that is perfect for us. Then we know the CBD will sue for more closures which they've been very vocal about. Even if it returns Glamis to a scientifically sound management plan with the current closures removed the CBD has said they will not be satisifed. That means big lawsuits to fight against.
2) The CBD wins and we get a plan with the current and/or more closures. In this case we obviously have to take the offensive and again it means lots of very expensive lawsuits fighting groups with very deep pockets. And we all know how to win in court in this country
3) We get a plan the BLM considers fair with some of the closures in place. Super bad news, why? Suddenly we have to fight a two front war. We have to play defense against the lawsuits the CBD will file (remember they've made it clear that any less than the current closures and they want to go after all of the ISDRA) and we have to play offense to continue to fight to get back the dunes that were already taken from us "temporarially".
No matter what happens (Short of the CBD being labled domestic terrorists or the treasonous $*!(*&@ they are, and even then some other overfunded under brained group will take up the fight) this is going to be a long expensive fight with no end in sight.
It's wishfull thinking to say the end is near. The fight has barely begun and we need to get realistic about that. Too many people still think this is a one time threat that will go away and don't want to stand up to fight for access to their land.
