I finally got my flywheel puller for my LT500r. What I am trying to do is replace the lighting coils. So I took the side cover off. Now the flywheel is the big silver thing righT? What do I do next? There is a nut in the center of the flywheel, do I remove that? IS it left or right thread? Then I use my puller to take the flywheel off correct?

Thanks
Permagrin
I use an impact wrench to get the nut off. its easier than trying to use a socket.

When you get it off.
screw the puller into the threads of the flywheel and turn the center post clockwise to pull the flywheel off.
Then you will see 3 coil windings there are 2 that look the same. those are the ones you will replace. use a Phillips screwdriver to undo the screws. you will have to cut the wires and solder or crimp the new ones in place.
once they are in place , Be careful to put the flywheel on inline with the key on the shaft.
Put it back together and your done.

Does the nut holding the flywheel on turn clockwise or counterclockwise to remove?
Permagrin
I beleive its cc

Look closely at the shaft you shoud be able to tell?
When you still have the flywheel on? kick it over and see which way it turns? it will be the direction to get it off

If you don't have a impact put the bike in gear and have somebody hold the rear brakes.

And hit the wrench with a dead blow hammer or even a heavy piece of wood. It's the quick jerk of the impact gun or hammer blow that loosens up tight nuts. Damn that sounds bad. icon_biggrin.gif

The flywheel spins cc, so I tried using an impact clockwise and a ratchet w/ someone holding the brakes but the damn thing won't move. You guys sure it threads off clockwise? Any other ideas? Thanks
