The wife and I were talking on the way home, and was just wondering. I recently found out that my liver is not in the greatest shape and have to quit drinking, and that is what started the whole alcohol thing.

I take a case, usually come home with a few. But that is because I switch to Jack & Coke later in the day.

Less than a six pack usually. And nine times out of ten I come home with more than I brought since other people stash some in my cooler and forget about them. Those tend to just collect in my fridge for when friends visit since I can't drink Bud anything.
Though for my birthday this year we did bring three kegs of homebrew. But that's the first time that's happened.
I usually bring one nice beer per night so I have something to entertain me if my rail breaks. If nothing breaks I'm too busy duning to bother with the beer and it just comes home with me.

just to be clear, I did not start this thread to judge or whatever, it was just for my personal knowledge, as long as people are responsible with their actions, there is nothing wrong with having a few, I just cant do that anymore.
The funny part is, I dont even really drink now, maybe 4 or 5 over a weekend, and 2 or 3 at a BBQ or gathering or something of that nature, I dont stock beer in the fridge for myself. between the ages of 17 and 23 I drank like a fish, and I think it is catching up with me, I am 32 now.

I tend to throw back quite a few sitting by the fire at night. I take a full cooler so I don't run out and have some to offer friends that visit camp

. I hope my liver is OK? I'm almost 38 and been drinking beer like a fishy for years
The Wife
Mar 13 2005, 10:25 AM
No alcohol for me, thanks

JWB, if you are concerned about the state of your liver your doctor can do a blood test that checks your enzyme levels in you kidneys and liver. Ian had to get a blood test for his life insurance policy and some of his levels came back elevated. It is a scary thing, he hasn't been a hard drinker for the last 6-7 years, I guess sometimes it doesn't take much.

I usually have a case with me, but I don't really drink during the day, but after all the rides are done, I'll have some beers and then it switches to cokctails if I'm tieing one on. Sometimes I won't even more than 1 or 2 and other times I can be up partying till 4am....though I try to avoid those now..... kids wake up too early to be doin stupid $hit like that.

I usually bring a 12 pack of coors light. I'll have a couple during the day, but I don't actually get to drinking untill after I am done riding at night. Then it's the jager shots, and jack and coke. There are too many little ones in our camp now that my brothers and I are starting to have kids so we would rather just but the little ones to bed and then have fun.

I usually have a beer while unloading the trailer, then none until that first night ride when you get to the dunes. Once we're back from the ride (usually two stops and an hour and a half or so, one beer and one water), I drink excessively.
Next morning, I require a minimum of 6 bottles of water/Gatorade to re-hydrate from the previous night's escapades. After that (early-mid afternoon) I'll switch off Coors Light and water...

I'm with you on this one....I can drink you under the table with my Lipton habit. Best in my weight/height 3 years in a row!
Seriously though, my husband and I do not drink at all. I was actually surpised to see that the "no alcohol" option in the poll had the second highest amount of votes. Interesting!

I am one that voted for a 12er in a weekend...most weekends I don't get more than 4 beers in me. Some weekends I outdo myself and have more than a 12er. I don't get on my bike...I stumble aimlessly around camp and am happy that I am even able to find the trailer...and from what I've heard, that even isn't very easy for me.
Would I ever get on my bike in this condition? No. Drinking and driving is a

But I don't see anything wrong with the sun going down and having a few beers...for myself anyway. Because I know I am not going to go out and kill myself or anyone else. The ones that drink all night and then go on night rides, THEY WORRY ME. But not everyone is like that.

I was very surprised at the way the poll is going, I have NO problem with people having a good time and a few drink, but damn, it just seems a bit much, if you look at it over the course of 2 nights and 2days (Friday night, Saturday, then 1/2 day Sunday) so basically 2 days. the majority averages 12 beers a day, now split that up, say 4 beers during the day and 8 in the evening. it doesnt sound like much, but that WILL effect peoples judgement, and there are already so many people that you have to look out for anyways, I dont want anything slowing my reactions down.
On a personal note, we have just had several alcohol related issues hit a little too close to home, and with Fasterdaddys families incident, it just makes me think a little harder thats all. The wife and I made a pact today, NO ALCOHOL, end of story, I am done with that part of my life, my body is now paying for it, and I want to be healthy so that when I do have kids, I can set a good example and teach them to be responsible.
I am sure that 90% of the people that have a few drinks dont go out of camp, but its the 10% that do that scare me, it scares me what they might do to my family, and in return what I will do to them.

Agreed. But I really don't leave camp too often at night for that reason. I can't see well at night as it is and the last thing I need is some drunk plowing into me.
I think for the most part we have a pretty safe camp. But like everywhere else, a few have their faults too when it comes to drinking and driving. Unfortunately, at this point, I'd think it comes with the territory.
I never go anywhere after I start Drinking...To Hard to see at night anyways why would you take a chance like that

Here here! I don't even start drinking (minus a beer or 2 during the day....maybe) until all of my riding is done for the day....including the hill run at night. That is where I watch everybody else get outta control ie. dumb drunk fight, public nudity, ya know the spectator side of things!!
