thinking about redoing m top end over the summer... new piston and rings but i was also thinking of porting my head.

what kind of ports are there? ive heard of a drag port, dune port, and what else?

also is there rejettin involved after i get it all together?

what cost am i looking at for this to be done? or should i say screw it and mill the head too?

ohhh sorry i thought i put down what bike... its a 2002 banshee with FMF pipes and K&N air filter. thats it motor wise.

what kinda bike?

If it is a 2 stroke you are talking about.
There is motor X and desert porting. However the porting is done on the cylinder not the head.

They mill they head depending on the compression you want. After milling the head, and according to the type of work they do, you may need to run race gas or pump gas.

When porting is involved, jetting is usually necessary.
When you mill the head, jetting usually stays the same.

That's what I've been told when I talk to the motor builders. I may be wrong.

if you are going to port it you might as well spend a little more and mill the head. most likely you will have to rejet but its very easy. you will thank yourself when its done. and unless you just have to be "that" much faster than your other buddies i would recommend not getting a drag port, ive ridden a few bikes like that and they dune like a loud piece of trash. also look into advancing your timing with a timing plate to get a little more from the added compression.

Read from the master brother. I advide you to read everything but a bit down the page is porting and headwork.

i havent had time to read it yet but i will...

my dad has built many motors and knows how to port my bike. i just wanted to know if i should mill the head too. along with wanting to know that i was wanting to know if i should rejett, the cost of the mill job, etc..

thats my main question.

also who is capable of doingthis? is any cycle shop able to or anyone recommend anyone they have had success with?

I'm in the same boat. Looking to do a top end / port work in the off season on my banshee.

Wicked ATV in Anaheim (Used to be in corona) does porting / motor work. I have heard good things about them, but my understanding was Glenn did all of there porting in the past before they moved, and now he is no longer there.
I have had my bike to the shop in Anaheim for some small stuff and Roger seems to know his stuff, but haven't heard anything on their porting.

Anyone here anything good or bad on Wicked? Any other recommendations in the So Cal preferably OC or LA county area for some port work??

I'd stick to buying stuff from Wicked (if they can stay in business long enough) Personally I would not let them touch my engine. Call Kevin @ Custom Creations ATV in Highland (909) 388-2887, explain wht you are after and see what he suggests.
