In the days to come, summer will find that he no longer reins over the long hot days and humid nights of Mother Glamis. Fall and winter will soon be here, beginning another transition that is delivered consistently time and time again. Even summer understands the cycle that must take place, and very soon the hot days will turn cold, and the nights turn crisp.
The change soon comes, and it is greeted with eager anticipation. The Red Tail Hawk’s “dance in flight” will begin, allowing another generation to view what he so unselfishly displays. The White Lined Sphinx Moth will wait in the shadows until dusk, and then take to the air in search of the Dune Evening Primrose. Various shrubs such as the Mesquite and Buckwheat are havens for the Fringe Toed Lizard and Gray Tailed Fox. The Western Banded Gecko will watch the night skies in search of the infamous Great Horned Owl. The Coyote, who dunes like no other, will skim across the sand in search of food.
Mother Glamis will then welcome other visitors with open arms. A young girl wearing an oversized helmet clumsily rides a mini bike through the flats as her father proudly runs behind. A young teenager sits across from the Oldsmobile double jump on his 125, anxiously building the courage to make an attempt. A novice quad rider follows a group through the big dunes for his first time, hoping that the ride will never end. Eight Banshee runners sit at the bottom of Competition Hill, all eager to be titled “King of the Hill”. A husband and wife relax in their two-seater buggy at the top of a dune watching the sunset, reminiscing about times shared together.
As both sides join together, all that is involved will share the respect and wonder of this sanctity of life; a life called Glamis.

Today was the first day of what I would call perfect dune weather this year. It didn't start getting warm until almost 3PM and by 7PM it was cooling off again.
Nice crisp air all morning and the sun shining in that way that means you don't have to squint and everything stands out like God reached down and twisted the sharpness knob all the way up. And that special mix of desert plants that give the air a certian smell and taste that you just can't get anywhere else.
I didn't make it out but I did sit in the rail and I did get the Baja to start for it's first time! The days are getting shorter but the dunes are getting ready. They're calling for sure and in just a few short weeks we'll all be back home enjoying the things that make us miss the dunes so much when we can't be there.
Oh I wish I had my starter
