I think it's been posted before, but it's too good, so back to the top...

Christmas Poem

'Twas The Night Before Christmas,
He Lived All Alone,
In A One Bedroom House
Made Of Plaster And Stone.

I Had Come Down The Chimney
With Presents To Give,
And To See Just Who
In This Home Did Live.

I Looked All About,
A Strange Sight I Did See,
No Tinsel, No Presents, Not Even A Tree.

No Stocking By Mantle,
Just Boots Filled With Sand,
On The Wall Hung Pictures
Of Far Distant Lands.

With Medals And Badges,
Awards Of All Kinds,
A Sober Thought Came Through My Mind.

For This House Was Different,
It Was Dark And Dreary,
I Found The Home Of A Soldier,
Once I Could See Clearly.

The Soldier Lay Sleeping,
Silent, Alone,
Curled Up On The Floor
In This One Bedroom Home.

The Face Was So Gentle,!
The Room In Such Disorde r,
Not How I Pictured
A United States Soldier.

Was This The Hero
Of Whom I'd Just Read?
Curled Up On A Poncho,
The Floor For A Bed?

I Realized The Families
That I Saw This Night,
Owed Their Lives To These Soldiers
Who Were Willing To Fight.

Soon Round The World,
The Children Would Play,
And Grownups Would Celebrate
A Bright Christmas Day.

They All Enjoyed Freedom
Each Month Of The Year,
Because Of The Soldiers,
Like The One Lying Here.

I Couldn't Help Wonder
How Many Lay Alone,
On A Cold Christmas Eve
In A Land Far From Home.

The Very Thought
Brought A Tear To My Eye,
I Dropped To My Knees
And Started To Cry.

The Soldier Awakened
And I Heard A Rough Voice,
Santa Don't Cry,
This Life! Is My Choice;

I Figh t For Freedom,
I Don't Ask For More,
My Life Is My God,
My Country, My Corps."

The Soldier Rolled Over
And Drifted To Sleep,
I Couldn't Control It,
I Continued To Weep.

I Kept Watch For Hours,
So Silent And Still
And We Both Shivered
From The Cold Night's Chill.

I Didn't Want To Leave
On That Cold, Dark, Night,
This Guardian Of Honor
So Willing To Fight.

Then The Soldier Rolled Over,
With A Voice Soft And Pure,
Whispered, "Carry On Santa,
It's Christmas Day, All Is Secure."

One Look At My Watch,
And I Knew He Was Right.
Merry Christmas My Friend,
And To All A Good Night."

This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan.

ChevyChik sent me a version with a sailor, but I think this is the original... I remember seeing it for the first time like 7 or 8 years ago...

I remember reading that in High School. Maybe those idiots (Blu and Dano) need to read this and think of the freedoms that they are trying to take away are the same ones that our soldiers have fought and died to protect!

That is pretty cool, I think I saw a version of that a while back too.

A couple of days ago we received a bunch of letters from some 5th graders in Florida, it was pretty neat to read some of them. Some were genuine and some were generic but it didnt matter to me, they were all little voices that took time to share. It really is amazing how big a difference things like this make, really lifts your spirit.

Today I'm writing a letter in reply thanking them for taking the time out of their busy little lives to share some feelings for all of us.

I'll share some of the letters with you. I'll leave them unedited with only the names removed:

quote:
Dear US Citizens

Merry Christmas. I bet you miss your family my dad used to feel the same way (he is in the US Air Force.) I would like to hear from all you guys. Oh and do good I will be listing on T.V

Your Friend

quote:
Dear U.S. Soldier,

My name [removed], I was just witer to you to tell you thank you for your sorport. I am glad you are all down their for use. If yall wright back tell me what Kuwait okay.

quote:

I am [removed].
Thank you for fighting for our country. Be confident and careful. I have one brother and 2 birds. Try to have fun. I hope you you have a wonderful Christmas. Hope you come back soon to see your family.

quote:
I'm a 5th grader at [removed]. I heard what you are doing. To me, that is very brave. I don't think I could do it. My class and I all respect what you doing for this country. We would all like to see how you did when you get back. We're all cheering for you.

P.S.
happy holidays!

These all put a big smiley on my face [Big Grin]

Some of the posts were hilarious, how I would picture Voice when he was a we bitty one. Very outspoken and aggressive. Guess somebody took them to their room as I can't find them right now. So for any other military members on the boards, know that many are thinking of you. I know Crash and some of the friends who were with him on the night ride at the beginning of the season are in the Navy.

If I had to guess I would say it was written by somebody in the Army since it uses Soldier rather than Marine, it doesnt matter though. Happy Holidays everybody, I cant wait to get home and ride.

Ghetto Christmas
Twas da night befo' & all in the hood
not a homie was stirrin cuz all waz good
The tube socks was hung by the window sill
and we all had smiles up on our grill
Mookie and Bebe was snug in the crib
in the back bedroom cuz that's how we live
And mom's in her do-rag and me with my nine,
Had just gotton buzy cuz my girlfriend is fine.
All of the sudden, a lowrider rolled by
Bumpin' phat beats cuz the system be fly.
I bounced to the window at a quarter pas'
'Bout ready to pop a cap in somebody's a**!
I yelled to my lady, yo peep this!
She said, stop frontin' & just mind yo' bidness.
I said, for real doe, come check dis out.
We weren't bumpin' an thumpin' from around da way
Was Santa, 8 reindeer and a sleigh.
Da beats was kickin', da ride was phat
I said, "Yo red Dawg, yoiu all that!"
He threw up a sign and yeleed to his boyz,
"Ay yo, give it up, let's make some noise!"
To the top of the projects & across the strip mall,
We gots to go, I got a booty call!"
He pulled up his ride on the top a da roof,
And sippin' on a 40, he busted a move.
I yelled up to Santa, "Yo ain't go to stack!"
he said, "Damn Homie, deese projects is wack! But don't worry blac, cuz I gots da skillz
I learnt back when I hadda pay da billz."
Out from his bah he pulled 3 small tings a credit card, a knife, and a bobby pin.
He slid down the fire exscape smovve as a cat, and busted the window wit' a b-ball bat.
I said "Whassup, Santa? Whydya bust my place?"
he said, "You best get on out my face!"
His threads was all leatha, his chains was all gold, His sneaks was Puma andthey was 5 years old.
He dropped down the duffle, Clippers logo on the side.
Santa broke out da loot and mouf popped open wide.
A wink of his eye and a shine off his gold toof,
He cabbage patched his way back onto the roof
He jumped in his hooptie wit' rims made of chrome
To tap that botty waitin' at home.
And all I heard was he cruised outta sight,
Was a loud and hearty......
"WEEEEEESSST SIIIIIIIDE!"
